Sorry if this has another thread.

Did a search but couldn't find anything.

This wonen, as a key leader in the community, seems to have made some serious misjudgements at a time of crisis (her supposed bread and butter) and totally cocked it up.

Surely shouldn't be employed in any emergency management role. Ever.

That's right. The clue is in her words "I had to eat". Ms Nixon is obese and with obese people food is an addiction. As far as priorities go, her need to have a fix would have outweighed her consideration for a burning Marysville. Her misjudgement was not ordering a pizza instead of deserting her post.

The serious misjudgement was Brumby's for putting her in an emergency job.
 
Initially I thought there was a big fuss over her just having a quick pub meal, but now it turns out that (although she omitted this from her original account) she spent more than an hour at the hairdresser in the morning, plus a similar period with her personal biographer in the afternoon.

Also, although her phone records show continuous use of her mobile throughout the day, there is a mysterious complete silence between 6pm and 9pm while the fires were raging and the first deaths had been reported. She denies that her phone was turned off during this time.

I do like it when there are more than two threads on a topic as one can take opposing viewpoints, which always leads to clarity at the finish. Lets not spoil the fun by merging them.

Really? Leave her alone.

After they put out her itinerary on what was already deemed to be the worst day for fire in history I think she should at least explain her afternoon/evening decisions.

When things were getting hectic you would think the top of the crop would be wanting to do all they can...not down burgers and work on a biography.

LOLOL ....... my area of concern is that she was derelict in her duty as the top cop. Apparently one of her police stations was being burned to the ground whilst she chowed down at the local pub discussing her memoirs whilst said phone was switched off. No problem with this as it can be easily explained "It was my day off and I had to eat" was the response !! Pffffffffffttttttt !! Contemptuous in the extreme IMO. Now let's be broadminded about this little transgression and let it go through to the keeper BUT then to change your story after seperate investigations does not bode well for her future. Nero fiddles as Rome burns perhaps?
 
A prominent Melbourne QC says an inquiry should be launched into the leaking of damning allegations against former Victorian police commissioner Christine Nixon ahead of the bushfires royal commission hearings this week.

The draft submissions, leaked to the Herald Sun newspaper, accuse Ms Nixon of deliberately misleading the royal commission in regards to her whereabouts on Black Saturday, the day of the February 2009 devastating Victorian bushfires.

173 people died as a result of the fires and 414 were injured. .... and the fat controller was out to dinner with her phone off. Simply stunning that people think this is OK practice. GEEEEEEEEEZZUUUUZZ !

She has got to go. It is an insult to those that have been affected by the fires that she still heads up the commission.

Ashby and Mullet must be enjoying this.
 
I am really getting sick of everyone complaining about what happened over a year ago. Sure, it needs to be dealt with, and hopefully it does get dealt with, but the focus needs to be what's going on now. Over a year after the fires have stopped burning, everyone is focusing on the wrongs which occurred at the time, which means they're ignoring the wrongs going on now. Surely stopping wrongs from happening is more important than whinging about what can't be changed.

The council in control of Kinglake is deliberately hindering the redevelopment of the town, and very clearly stealing the money which was donated by well intentioned people who gave to charity in hope of supporting fire victims. In no way do I condone Nixon's sloth, but what is going on now is even worse. While the suicide rate of our area (we're in between Kinglake and Kinglake West) has jumped massively since the fires, and domestic violence is also massively up due to the pressures people are under after losing homes, jobs, family, being traumatised, etc, the money which was given to help the situation is being stolen by council workers who don't live in or care about the community affected.

After the fires, tourism surged to many times above what we had ever seen before, but the council deliberately prevented businesses from reopening, presumably because they live in nearby towns which would suffer if Kinglake was to prosper and steal their tourists. There are people struggling after what happened, who can not get their businesses off the ground because the council refuses to allow new developments, or even the rebuilding of the businesses which were even there (preventing the locals who need income more than ever from returning to what they previously did).

The council hired a single psychologist to help the traumatised community, but did not advertise the fact, so that psychologist went to regular council meetings, but after sitting around for a year or so without seeing anyone just recently was found by someone who suggested that she advertise in the local media (which would be free and get the word in print into every house/temporary home on the mountain), although even now it probably won't happen because the council seems to prefer wasting money (which is a nice way of saying 'stealing money' by paying their friends to do jobs which aren't needed, or could be done for 2% of the price) and they are desperate to keep the town down.

Seeing it with my own eyes I am amazed that a situation so heavily covered by the media remains so poorly understood by the Australian community outside of the Kinglake ranges, and it is sickening to be a part of it.

If you want something to whinge and complain about, forget Nixon, she has already been exposed. Focus on the bastards continuing to profit from harming Kinglake.

Seriously, in a career sense, she is as good as superannuated, why should she care about the acccusations, whether true or concocted? A good manager delegates.

Christine might be more interested in her biography. You know it's just possible that it will portray her as a heroine of the sisterhood, a martyr, so unfairly reviled. Because she is a woman, nothing to do with going out to dinner and turning her phone off.

Just heard on the telly she is giving everyone a spray and it was not her fault. Even blamed the journalists for reporting on her and it was a "smear" campaign because she is fat !!! Never mind she was derelict in her duties and was incompetent in her job !! The royal commission is a "Kangaroo court and irrelevant" Pfffffffffftttttttt !

Christine might be more interested in her biography. You know it's just possible that it will portray her as a heroine of the sisterhood, a martyr, so unfairly reviled. Because she is a woman, nothing to do with going out to dinner and turning her phone off.

Well trainspotter it sounds like she has all the attributes for Labor preselection plus not likeing Newscorp she's a dead certainty.
 
This on top of carbon tax increases to electricity? This is not supported by the Vic government according to the article below.

Excerpt - bold is mine:

A draft ruling by the Australian Energy Regulator this week opened the way for SP AusNet to pass on excess costs to its customers from the Kilmore East and Murrindindi fires - which would mean any costs related to the class actions not covered by its insurance.
