The recent travesty involving Ireland losing out to France after the cheater Thierry Henry handled the ball will cost FIFA dearly.

The organisation controlling football internationally is already replete with ancient hangers on and muppets.

The Irish will pursue this to the World cup and beyond if they do not get justice.

They are a race with even longer memories for injustice than even the Israelis and Palestinians.

I remember once meeting Teddy Kennedy in Boston at an AFL-CIO convention when I was arran$ing for some of my men to work on a contract in the US. He was proud of his Irish heritage and was in the doldrums after killing that young girl. He was dirty on the American press.

I asked him if he felt aggrieved. His reply was, " I'm Irish, the Irish forgive, but they never forget".

After an exchan$e of plea$antries my boys got their Union cards and Teddy recovered from his manslaughter.

So FIFA, you prize muppets, watch out, because the Irish will ruin your World Cup unless justice is seen to be done.

On the specific incident, and under current rules, it is all swings and roundabouts isn't it? Some you win, some you lose.

What I don't understand with soccer is what is stopping some sort of video review? American (NFL) football seems to use it with success. Cricket also. Why not FIFA?

It wont cost them anything, the game is what it is and the fans seem to accept its limitations and all the crap that goes with that, the game hasn't changed in decades if at all and is in desperate need of some sort of video
refereeing....still the fans and FIFA etc dont want any change.

I think along with a video option of some kind...the goals needs to be about 1 meter wider and a little higher to encourage a more aggressive style of play...and there needs to be 0 tolerance of diving etc.

IMO all they need to do to make soccer more watchable is implement the same rule as in basketball. Once you have crossed into your attacking half, you cant cross back. This would instantly create more shots on goal.
 
It's interesting that the Irish skipper's first half hand ball during the game hasn't been noted at all in any of the news I've read on this. Why is that? Would it make the story less newsworthy?

What actually happened?

All I saw was he touched it with his hand when trying to get around the goally (and subsequently missing anyway). Weren't the scores already 1-1 at that stage, so it didn't actually affect the result? I didn't really see it, as I can't stand the sport of divers.

Actually I disagree. Most of the time the ball is played in the centre of the pitch...it would be disastrous and would throw most tactics out the window... the low scoring is arguably the best part of the game and there is already a rule which was made to stop the play being predictable and high scoring... "the offside rule" My personal favorite

The German match-fixing investigation is looking at some 200 games

Authorities in Germany said the investigation was looking at illegal betting in nine European leagues, including the Champions League.

Some 200 suspect matches were believed to have generated several million euros in betting profits, according to prosecutors.

Police in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Britain carried out up to 50 simultaneous raids as part of the probe.

Fifteen people were arrested in Germany and two in Switzerland, while cash and property worth millions of euros was seized.

Maybe FIFA need more Swedish firefighter refs. They must be on such a good package for their day job as not to be tempted to look the other way! :rolleyes:;):D
 
One good thing to come out of it all may be to get rid of the EU and all the hangers on who work for that anti free trade organisation.

The Irsih I believe are putting the shillelagh up the French diplomatically and this may cause instability in the EU if its not resolved.

The EU is second only to the UN in being run by useless dumpers.

As for the skill involved in soccer it is second only to Rugby League for pure skill although some of the European teams are a mob of nancy divers and sooks.

Rugby League - way ahead of soccer, RL has a video replay facility for adjudicating tries ... FIFA is a backwards-looking, hick organisation.

No, the score was 1-0 at the time and the subsequent pass was headed in for a goal. Not only did he keep the ball in play with his hand, he was also offside when the ball was played to him. Stop this video at the 1:10 mark and you will see the clear offside.

If they hadn't scored due to that incident and the score were to remain 1-0 at end of extra time, they would have had a penalty shoot out to decide. France had won the first match in Dublin 1-0, so although Ireland were ahead in this game, overall both were level. (That's why they were playing extra time to begin with.)

Being Irish by birth myself, I think they should just let it pass. These things happen. There were incidents in other matches when things were wrongly decided in Ireland's favour, so you win some and lose some.

The only reason to pursue it would be if there was a suggestion that the ref deliberately made a wrong decision, but there hasn't been any suggestions of that, apart from claims by some out and out fanatics.

Henry was well behind the play and is not offside when the ball is kicked. There was another person in an offside position but he would not be offside as not interfering with play.

But of course it was deliberate handball - deserved a yellow card had the ref seen it. But he did not. And that's the breaks - it is all in the opinion of the referee.

The ref had a great game, it's the lineman I have issue with. He had a clear view of the action, and it was technically offside, no doubt.

The most disgusting part of this sham for me was Henry's celebration. What a ****in prick.
You're right gg, we won't forget this but at least we can have a laugh.

You are kidding, GG - rugby league at the top of the skillful ladder? Bunch of buff heads throwing an egg around and smashing into each other? Exciting, yes, elements of skill, yes - but overall more skillful than the beautiful game? Please...:rolleyes:
