Australia - Not allowed to do anything!

I miss living in Japan and being able to ride my pushbike on the footpath without a f*#cken helmet.

It's the same in Holland!

It's amazing how far a bit of care and tolerance can carry a society :p.

You're wasting your breath trying to convince anyone who hasn't lived abroad. If I had a dollar for the number of times I've head, "yeah, but it's still againsts the law".

I love getting back to Sweden so I can drive and talk on my mobile phone without needing to worry about the fuzz trying to bust my a$$.

Oh by the way, Sweden has the lowest road death rate per million inhabitants, or per billion kilometers driven in the EU. Lower than the Netherlands, and both are still lower than Australia. Go figure!

Maybe it's the "she'll be right, mate" attitude in Aus that adds recklessness to distractions.

Only recently I was waiting to enter a smallish roundabout. An over sized ute entered opposite at quite high speed. With no blinker to indicate he was turning right plus the speed, I assumed he was going straight ahead. Then he flies around straight in front of me - still traveling very fast. No exit blinker.

As he flew past, he was holding a mobile phone to his right ear. As he needed his left hand to reef the steering wheel, no hands left for the blinker. IMO, that is totally irresponsible combination of both mobile phone and speed.

Then there was a lady we saw driving on the M1 (speed limit 110) who was using both hands putting her make-up on. She must have been using her knees to drive.

Saw one last weekend waiting to turn at the lights. Cigarette in right hand, mobile phone in left hand. And this car had a manual transmission so I wasn't waiting around (as a pedestrian) to see what happened.

Even if caught several times, they seem to be doing the same even without the license, often in unregistered car and definitely without insurance.

I know this would be more like police state, but such people should be locked up until they re-gain their license.

GG
I have an over seas interest in 2 acres on a river bank which cost4$G opened a bank account and pumping it up almost as fast as Rudd is spending ..well trying to.. trying to sell up and go, only problem is I have 2 x 24yr olds looking for a Western Boy friend so yes I am stuffed but in a good way.. so when the house of cards goes down here I will be chasing a chocks around for dinner.
