Re: 9.58 - Usain Bolt

Not to take away for Mr Bolt running fast but perhaps our adulation should be reserved for someone more deserving ?

say

GANDHI.jpg

Re: 9.58

Actually he is quite a good runner technically, alot better then most of the others in that race. He remains very smooth and relaxed. Most of the deficiences will be very hard for him to correct too much at this stage and if I was his coach I wouldn't be messing around with his technique too much.

I'm not so sure. His physical attributes give him a huge advantage. Not many athletes with his height have the leg speed and power that he has. If he ever gets in top shape and with the right conditions at the same time he could test the 9.5 second area.

I actually think he is a better suited to the 200m & I would love to see him have a crack at the 400m as well.

I think your a bit of a tough critic, nomore4s. Are you a running coach?

If Bolt is only "quite a good runner technically" and not quite in "top shape" (he should lay off the grog and durries), I would hate to hear what you have to say about the second placed runner.

I think you should read the thread and put it in context with your response to this comment.

Nomore was replying to a poster who said he was 'poor technically'.

I have read the thread, thank you MrC.

My point is, how can anyone say the fastest man of all time is "quite good technically".

Re: 9.58 - Usain Bolt

It's not surprising.

He's the most relaxed runner. Look at the other runners, they tense up so much they lose alot of energy and muscle power doing it.

Before bolt was about, you look at Powell. He always broke the record is the lesser events where he was more relaxed but could never win the big runs (Olympics) because he was so tense and nervous

Bolt even likes to joke around just minutes before the run. He's the best athlete both physically and mentally

Re: 9.58 - Usain Bolt

Gee .. he could be a really good runner if only we could improve his style "technically"? The guy could run like a crab and if he breaks the world record who really cares a ZOT of his "technical" style? He is 22 years of age and has no future in athletics. Apparently Telstra is looking to sign him up to assist in their T3 broadband speed.

Nomore was replying to me. I did not say he was poor technically. I quoted Maurice Green saying he was poor technically.

I wouldn't have a clue whether he is good technically.

Re: 9.58 - Usain Bolt

The guy is a feak. He breaks world records pulling up before the finish line, eats McDonald's on his way to winning an Olympic gold medal and the only drug he has possibly ever used would be the Bahamas happy smoke! This guy is seriously embarrasing the US mega dollar track & field programs.

lol, I actually meant he has a good technique especially for someone of his height. And yes I have been pretty heavily envolved in athletics in the past and my wife still coaches high level athletes. In fact my user name actually means "no more 400's";) taken on when I stopped running 400's.

It was by Bolts own admission that he isn't in top shape atm. What I was trying to say was if he is ever in top shape and has the right track conditions at the same time who knows what he will run.

Wow, 19.19 that's insane. I really want to see him have a crack at the 400m ne day, just for fun:D

Maybe Bolt has redefined what is correct technically and it the other runners who are now technically deficient.?

Everyone has different physical make ups (range of motion, height etc etc), so what works for one won't work for another. But like I said Bolt is actually pretty good technically.

Look at Michael Johnson, he had one of the worst techniques (according to text books) but he dominated his era. His running style would not work for 95% of other runners but it clearly worked for him.

Given the acceleration required for 100m, I always found it interesting that the 200m time is not faster than 2 x 100m time.

May be the explosive-type muscles just can't keep things up much longer than 19 secs

Whatever his technique it looks good to me, just to see him in the early rounds is amazing. He is the Popov of athletics. Popov had such a smooth swimming style and looked slow but he always beat the field.

Bolt just seems to be jogging when he runs the heats but still gets over the line first.

His height is a big factor, many other top athletes of his size are off playing in the NBA. Would be interesting to see if any of them could sprint fast given the required time for training.

Last year I was lucky enough to be in the crowd when he won the 100m final in Beijing. The stadium was rocking that night.

Nomore4s, can you at least raise your rating of Bolts running style to "very good technically".

If i remember my Phys Ed classes corerectly, it only takes about 4 or 5 paces to get up to top speed, so that side of things is relatively small.

The main energy system used when sprinting is the ATP-PC system, which is exhausted after about 10 seconds (this is pretty much all that is needed for world level 100m). After 10 seconds of intese power style exercise, that is, once the ATP system is depleted, the lactic system kicks in and the buildup of lactic acid begins to slow the muscles.

He turned 23 the other day. 21st August (or is that today?) anyways the man has a style that resembles a crab. Imagine what he could do if he could run technically? UMMMAR !!!!!!!!! :banghead:

Can't agree with the first part. See the attached Carl Lewis. It took half the distance in a 100m race to reach top speed. So

Totally agree with the second part.

Wow, 19.19 that's insane.

I reckon.

Soon he will be the first man ever to run the 200 in the 18.90s and 100 in 9.40s by the way he is going!

His only getting faster and faster and like you say, his not in his best condition (admittedly), the track was apparently 'soft' and he ran that 200 into a headwind and could have had plenty more tail wind in the 100 before it would be deemed legal.

If everything lines up over the coming years, it's incredible to think what this man could do!

One of the true freaks of sporting history!

Johnson must be sweating that 400 record which Bolt is after now!
