I have it on good inside information from Melbourne that Peter Costello is considering withdrawing his resignation from his seat given the recent ineptitude from the Liberal leadership.

You heard it here first.

Would make sense as why else would Turnblah self destruct if not to drum roll Costello's return as saviour of the Liberal Party. That said the treasure guy is Lil Johnnies plant so not sure why he would help the clown?

he is the only one suitable for the job....there are two hotheads....bad tempered men....both will self implode before too long....rudd and turnbull...to be followed by gilliard...another hothead then swan

thats my wish list anyway...we need cool, calm, collected people to make decisions about this country...

By any chance, did you receive this "good inside information" by E-mail ?

GG - the title of this thread appears to have a typo. Shouldn't it read "Costello Throwback"?

Well it seems like Turnbull is a goner, he doesn't look very confident and that treasury official will spill the beans after the first fingernail is pulled, he looks as guilty as you can get, this will be a huge scandal.

Costello was a good treasurer, not sure about PM but there aren't many choices, would be good to see him get a run.

Garpal,

Are you pulling our leg? This would be the greatest comeback since Lazarus ... I ask that you confirm this is not a joke, as I am a Costello fan and had briefly allowed myself to wonder as of 2 days ago whether this scenario could play out.

Costello comes from considerable family wisdom, he has not had the opportunity to put his own stamp on and he may be just what the liberals need for a few yrears till some of the newer members can cut their teeth.

Turnbull has lost it, Costello the only choice IMHO

I hope he comes back for the amusement alone. Don't agree with most of his policies but the guy is funny.

Yes GG,
Peter Costello is the only one left to save the Coalition. I sure hope your info is right.
There is very little experienced talent in the Coalition who could do the leadership justice like Peter Costello.
The Labor Party might regret pushing Turnbull to the brink to be replced by Costello.

Costello needs to tap a few on the shoulder...but start with Turnbull....
I just know he can do it....Costello has more support than his fellow party give him credit for....Abbott needs to shut up too.....Hockey is just a widget...just trying to think of a description for him...apart from the blue heeler dog...cause Joes still a pup at this stage..
extract...........
Mr Turnbull also risks party room resentment as the focus on the Liberal leadership, which Peter Costello's retirement was supposed to have negated, blunts the Opposition's policy agenda. Yesterday, the Coalition dropped its opposition to the Government's alcopops legislation - one of several possible triggers for an early, double dissolution election.

In a bid to pre-emptively kill off any talk of a challenge or tap on the shoulder, Mr Turnbull warned disgruntled MPs that the Coalition would lose an early poll and must be united,

GG, Don't tell me it was him that fabricated that elusive E Mail.:D:D

AHAH ! I've now worked it all out..:)

Costello finally decided to pull the plug to give Turnball a false sense of security.

Meanwhile he was artfully setting up Grech to feed Turnball a time bomb - A trojan horse email that was supposed to nail Rudd to the floor.

Naturally Turnball feeling very chipper with Costello no longer looking over his shoulders decided to use the trojan email - with devastating results on everything liberal.

Meanwhile Costello, now completely clean of the stink of utegate, is commanded by his loyal faithfuls and a desperate Liberal party to come back from the sunset and lead them to the land of milk and money.

That is the thinking here isn't it ?:D

I hope he comes back and challanges Turnbull for the leadership.

As for Rudd as PM I think Costello has earned the right to lead the country and would do alot better job.

It may take another election first tho.

Anyone know what Howard is doing with all his spare time?
