Security Guard Hold Ups - Easy Weapons

Another Security Guard hold up this morning in North Sydney:

SHOTS have been fired during a robbery of cash-in-transit security guards on Sydney's northside early today.
Police say four guards were robbed in Mount St, North Sydney just before 7am (AEST).

Several shots were fired but no one was injured, police say.

Two of the three robbers were carrying firearms. They fled the scene in a red sedan.

Police are appealing for witnesses while a crime scene has been established and examined for clues.

A delivery man called Mick saw the robbery and said it all happened just metres from where he'd parked his own van.

He said the robbers wore balaclavas, big jackets and gloves.

They made off with about four or five boxes of cash from the armoured van, as well as a sports bag full of envelopes handed over by the security guards, he said.

I vote that the security guards are taught how to defend the property they are meant to be defending and use their weapons, or take the damn things off them - we have enough weapons on the street already.

I agree with your frustration Roland, but when they do use their firearms they are dragged before the courts like a commom criminal eg that poor woman who shot a robber after she was assaulted by him a few years ago. Security guards are in a terrible position and from my knowledge paid terribly as well.

I think they undergo training in using their weapons... the problem lies in the fact that they are never ready and are always sprung by surprise. They would be better off having their weapons drawn when guarding a delivery.

Fact is it's pretty common for security guards to be losing their weapons in the hold ups that become news worthy.

1, would you do what your told ?

2, up click the safety strap on your holster then pull out your hand gun and shoot back ?
which would give the holder of the shotgun, that is pointed at you, time to fire about, 2 shots at very close range into the middle of your back, which would only drive two holes through your body about 26mm in size and then as he or she, the shooter, has nothing to lose, shot you other co workers full of holes also.

3, don't care about the other 30 people that are near by, as you could have them also shot in any cross fire.

by removing their guns... it would make the transportation of cash far easier to take over... I mean, me with a few friends could simply go up to them with a few golf clubs, baseball bats and a knife whilst their filling an atm or taking delivering money from a bank.

At least if would make the confrontation less lethal, less chance for by standers to be injured and the crims would just get the money and not better armed.

They are going to take the money anyway and just prepare their weapons according to the resistance encoutered.

Thats the key, most security guards are not really trained for situations like that (which that should thow). But by removing their firearms you might aswell leave the bag of cash for them to pick up aswell.

Hi UB, your personal attacks are a little annoying - but I've seen that from you before.

I'm not against guns, I'm ex military and have a string of Police Officers in my family tree.

Sorry for expressing my concern about more guns in the hands of criminals. I am a little surprised that you don't seem to feel the same way. Rather than a personal attack why not come up with something worthwhile to add instead of slagging off with the pretence of being a know it all.

The Guards, should act just like they are trained to.

to protect human life which includes their own and THEN the money and or goods they are carrying/protecting !

My best friend is a Guard, hence my reply to dumb and stupid claims some people make comes with just a bit more understanding of the subject than wild statements made by a super anti gun person.

I have not worked myself in Security or Policing,

but from what I understand

most cases like this are suspected to involve inside information, either from the security side, or business.

this makes it much easier for the crims to get the job done

any comments?

ps years ago I worked at a place that had several very sophisticated robberies carried out, much later I found out the parts manager was a secret heroin addict, and one of the fitters was a serious criminal.

It just clicked in my mind that they were almost certainly behind the matters
