I remember when I studied psychology at Uni, I had a tutorial, where the tutor showed a paragraph, which we needed to read out loud, then count the number of a particular letter of the alphabet we saw in the paragraph ... it may have been the letter u or some other letter. However out of a class of 30, 29 got the the count wrong. Anyone know of the name of the test or have references to it ?

Thanks mate. Cheers. What a great test that is, and I failed again .... my wife got it straight away, although she speaks 6 languages, and English her second.

She thinks the native English speaker ignores something ... don't want to give it away.

I nearly failed it, but before deciding my final answer, read it out loud. And the sound of the thing that stuffs ya makes it obvious, of course ;).

I've seen that test at least half a dozen times over the years, know the gotcha, and still got it wrong - only got 5 instead of 6 on the first attempt. :bonk:
