This bloke is an embarrassment.

He got in by a smidgen of the senate vote and continually exposes himself as a dill and a challenged gnat thinker..

Godbotherers and parliament do not make for a good mix, Oliver Cromwell and Tony Abbot excluded.

Another dysfunctional godbotherer is James Bidgood.

Perhaps we should have a godbothering interview of all candidates by the media prior to any election.

Its annoying how these minority senators get bought off so easily.

when the $950 cash splash came out, Greens blocked it.

reduced to $900.. and they let it through. How easily can these people be bought.

GG, you find Tony Abbott an acceptable godbotherer???

Nick Xenophon as a minority senator, seems quite thoughtful and sensible, in complete contrast to Senator Fielding who is acting out a role he seems to have modelled on the erstwhile Brian Harradine from Tasmania.

I'd bet my second to last dollar that the internet filtering scheme is at least partly a trade off to Fielding for his vote on some issue.

At last GG...a thread i can agree with, both fielding and the other Xidiot are
just getting in the way...and being annoying for annoyance sake.

Rudd and co have a mandate to do the greenhouse and workchoices thing.

Julia I accept your criticism of Tony. He's a complex guy. Attitudinal, godbotherer, pugnatious and opinionated. He has many of the characteristics of Santamaria.

I'd prefer to have him inside the tent than out.

Watch for him when Peter Costello takes over the leadership of the coalition and the Prime minister ship.

He'd be a very good Treasurer.

mandate?

maybe you're forgetting who the australian people voted into the senate.
If they had the power of the australian people to vote those policies through... then they would have been voted through.

only 43% of people voted Labor as 1st preference last election. hopefully someone sticks up for the 57% of us.

considering the senate results;

"After preferences were distributed, the Coalition had 41.5 per cent to Labor's 40.6 per cent,"

18/18,

Com on u know how this works...any govt is elected with a mandate, don't
matter if its a "drovers dog" election.

Its the Senates job to pass that mandate.....after that its anything goes.

Even i didn't vote Labor in the senate....i live in Bennelong, and took great
pleasure in my little part of Australian political history.

Either way he is a dill.

He has no policy.

He reacts to events.

and he is driven by a delusion called

GOD

A Graeco/Roman/Judaic nonsense of which he has no historical knowledge.

Most ancient rulers used religion as a means of power, not the other way about.

This bloke is an embarrassment.

No, he's a reflection of a poorly designed system.

I think the senate is an anachronism from the past, the constitution would never have gotten up without a senate being there to "protect state rights", so it's very being in itself was a compromise and it's not there for any "design" reasons. When the senate is in majority they rubber stamp, when "the opposition" is in the majority" the senate obfuscates, when minorities hold power then it becomes ridiculous. Normally some tosser often holds the balance eg Harradine was a classic example in the past and Fielding now

I think QLD led the way on this and the senate needs to be abolished all together, the people are the ultimate "house of review". The Government still has to answer to the constitution and the people.

At the end of the day we want Government to get on with things, it is nearly impossible when the senate is in minority, just let the Government govern and let the people throw them out at the next election if they are unhappy with things.

I don't trust godbotherers, especially christian brothers

Nope, it is the Senate's job to act as a house of review and to amend the legislation and not pass it as a matter of course. Labor doesnt have a mandate at all! Which is exactly what the Senators are doing - wanting amendments. Except K Rudd and co sometimes spit the dummy and refuse to compromise.

Costello has an unfortunate smirk. Puts most people off.
