Amazing things you have seen/witnessed

I love hearing story's from people, whether good, bad, happy or sad...just about life in general. What are some amazing things you have seen/witnessed?

One thing definitely for me would have to be standing at Federation square, along with thousands of other Aussies...cheering on the Socceroo's to beat Uruguay in the final leg for a world cup berth. The elation when Aloisi slotted through the final penalty, coupled with people going crazy, was one of the most amazing things I have seen. They closed off the intersection of Flinders and Swanston (outside Flinders St Station) so people could cheer and dance in the middle of the intersection...people were all slapping high 5's and hugging...was truly amazing.

On a side note my friend who stayed home said people ran out onto their streets and were cheering and all talking to each other...a great moment of pride and patriotism...
 
Ooops! Also...seeing my cousin (who the doctors said had no chance of walking or talking, let alone surviving past a young age) complete all these feats that we take for granted...and to see her always happy...great feeling.
 
Seeing a man skull 2 pints of beer without throwing up afterwards. Club legend :D

Nothing in the world can beat the feeling of your soccer team scoring an important goal.

Every time I watch the qualifier or games against Japan and Croatia my skin crawls, its an amazing feeling.
 
Had a massive night drinkin sake & beer at a bar in Japan, we jumped on our bikes & took off down the street in the pouring rain to the next watering hole about 20 mins ride away. When we got there, had discovered one of the bar staff had managed to follow us all the way & gave me my crappy umbrella I left at his bar. Could'nt believe it! bloody brillant.:eek:

On a tangent to that. I saw a guy skoll a 750mL bottle of heinz tomato sauce for $50 at a beach volleyball BBQ. Funny as.


On a serious note, JTLP your cousin's challenge and win must have really been something.


For me, the most amazing (in the true sense of the word) can be summed up in one word; India.

I'm with you JTLP. International football matches (especially WC) cannot be beaten.

I remember federation square for the Croatia game. Man that was tense.

The one thing I can't understand is teenagers, who are obviously born in this country, and live in this country, and probably call themselves Australian, support Italy or Croatia still. They are NOT Australian.

Any reason why? Brought up that way? Lived overseas for a period of time?

I'm born in Scotland. I think of myself as Australian. I am Australian (citizen at least:)). Scotland/UK are my second country.

I've just never seen the point. Patriotism is just another form of religion in my eyes. I love cricket and have happily watched 2 days of a test at the venue, but I don't particularily go for Australia. I cheer for the contest.

Australia is just a fusion of all that is good from other nations, anyway. I have never had anyone tell or show me a quintessential "Australian" attitude or attribute.

A typical misnomer is that we are sunburnt Aussies who live for the beach. Like it is mentioned we are the only ones. Try tell a Brazillian that.

Howard's "unaustralian" catchcry was used whenever he didn't like a response. The Australian population is an eclectic melting pot of great, good bad, honest, downright dishonest. A country of sportsmanship and sore losers, one of great ability to achieve whilst having a horrendous human rights record. Just like every other country on Earth.

Being deployed to Solomon Islands: seeing some of the most beautiful scenery you will ever see - yet see people living there so less fortunate than us, some in horrible circumstances. Really makes you appreciate everything in life. One day I will go back there...
 
Close proximity of Venus to a fine-crescent moon, the pair rising in tandem over the Grampians, with the pre-dawn light following (and soon engulfing them).
Venus not quite centered, to the concave side. An ancient Middle-Eastern symbol of course, these days associated with Islam; as an aesthetic and mystic symbol it pre-dates Islam by a couple of thousand years, or several.

A tick of the cosmic clock. More graceful than Halley's comet, which was something of a muffled chime.
 
A real contrast of amazing things was Cambodia. On one hand there were all these amazing temples, some over 1200 years old. Absolutely stunning and breath taking to see these things.

Then you come down to earth when you go into the streets and outside the temples and see all the land mine victims and those who had been tortured. Truely broke your heart. Some images that will last with me forever.
