Is it just me or is it open season on males these days, both in movies & in TV advertising? There seems to be an acceptance that males can subjected to all sorts of physical & verbal abuse so long as it's funny. I have complained to the Advertising Standards Bureau several times over the years, some being successful, others not. But in each case there was an overwhelming acceptance that it was ok to degrade & humiliate males in the name of humour.

Here's one I complained about -

and the response - search for Morning Fresh on the ASB site

Funniest home videos - they now have a whole segment on males getting hit in the genitals. My simple test is to reverse the roles - if it was a female getting hit or kicked in the genitals would it be as funny, or more to the point, tolerated?

What have we males been reduced to?

Until some expert finds the Male version of PMT so we can use that as an excuse for every thing ....we are sunk.
 
The concept that it is hilarious to treat men as idiots started way back with Dagwood Bumstead and has been reinforced in thousands of American sitcoms and cartoons ever since.

This weeks Boofhead Award goes to Foxtel for the 'wife installs Foxtel with out stupid hubby knowing it' ads.

I love the add where a couple are outside with the wife hanging out the washing; and the guy is talking about a boat accident. And the wife then pulls some clothing over her head and stumbles around saying "boat, what boat" :D
 
Lighten up people! Where has your sense of humour gone? Personally I would do something like was shown in your you tube video! I also have been with a number of girls who would respond the same way!

I do agree however about there being no humour when a man is hit in the genitals. Apart from being extremely painful it can easily render a man infertile.

I had a friend who did not like the movie Zoolander because it degraded men. He copped a lot of stick and I told him to pull his head in! I'm a Model, Idiot :)
 
I've heard/read that white males are the most unfortunate minority these days and I'd agree with that. It's acceptable to give them all the stick you can but if they respond it's going to be labelled racist/sexist whatever. Now I'm not against jokes paying out men, I just think it should be equal all across the board.
 
Let's have some role reversal -

The man hit's the woman over the head with the spanner - would that be funny?

The man/child kicks the woman in the genitals - would that be funny?

The man acts the smart, know it all while the woman looks confused and sheepish.

Men are the fools for accepting this - a fine example for the kids!
 
Uncle Festivus... I'm stuck in the middle with You. However I don't think advertising is the place to look for equality... in fact advertising isn't the place to look for anything... Except free steak knives. money back guarantees, once in a life time offers and a whole lot of stuff which mostly none of us need.

If we all chased equality and PC we would be a very boring society! Sure it wouldn't work the other way around in the public eye but I know I give females plenty of stick for being retarded drivers, being incapable of reading a map, being an emotional rollercoaster, not being able to sit in silence and be ok with it, not being able to understand that sport is essential in our day to day lives, that they should think about sex more often, I could go on all day but you get my drift...
