So I tried to get onto the Centrelink site to adjust/ reduce the family income estimate.
The system was "busy" and unavailable.
After a period, and after going around the house and disconnecting all devices attached to the WiFi, I managed to get it done.
With the wife in isolation, my work availability reduced (whilst she was overseas for 6 weeks nursing her father back to health) as I was the equivalent of a single parent.
Not to mention the ~ 30% drawdown on the portfolio, am not willing to dump at major losses, prefer to sit it out.
The wife would be able to work in lockdown as she works at a Pharmacy. Me, no. Non essential, my work is all outside though with generally little to no interaction with other people. I am a sole trader.
We have had $4k of unexpected cost in relation to the wife looking after her Father.
Baked beans and instant noodles for me for the foreseeable future.

Might have to go trapping wascaly wabbits soon...:oops::(
Anyone got any gooy Coney stew recipes?

Are we surprised ? The system is always under challenge. The current crisis is clearly disastrous. Sincerely hope it can be "fixed quickly." :rolleyes:

Like your optimism, but this is not going to be fixed easily or quickly.

For f--k sack, the Fed and States cannot even agree on one united direction, time to call in the army and start shooting politicians

Denial of services by.. ordinary Aussies looking for a saving line

How can our gov technical services be so lame...ohhh underpaid and subcontracted to big os corporates employing offshore personnel
These are the people leading us in this virus war, as for state, I'm in Qld..all is said..the worst premier of all

System crashed, reportedly from a Cyber attack. This situation is a hackers wet dream or maybe it is a govnuts wet dream that started all of this due to a trade war with a goof of a president.

Maybe someone should tell him to do a little reading, that is if he can read :

The Art of War is an ancient Chinese military treatise dating from the Late Spring and Autumn Period (roughly 5th century BC).

Can't say if it was a cyber attack... apparently the Centrelink system can handle 55,000 concurrent users... all Centrelinks have queues out the door for 1, 2, 300 metres...
So, yes, denial of service attack but by the people genuinely trying to access the services... I saw the writing on the wall after the Ann yesterday by our PM.
What worries me more... is in the US, there's queues outside gun shop's.

Surely they would suspend gun sales until after the situations dissipate... oh, hang on, that's common sense.
How silly of me...

My point...in 2020, you build cloudbased system using AWS or similar platform with quasi illimited load capacity as you increase virtual services as per demands..one glitch in case the server reaches its contractual capacity, one phone call, and ramp up the limits ..too simple...
I have the suspicion CPU demand with our current economy must not exactly be high..
different from the network capacity which must be strained with all the kids on video games and adults on YouPorn working from home ;-)

I'm not sure of the exact timeline starting from when they engineered Corona (not the beer) and am having more trouble determining who are behind the proxy pools in the "Change in substantial holding" announcements. But yeah, recovery in Wuhan was rather tidy and timely.
 
The Centrelink system doesnt work at the best of times, its difficult to navigate and crashes all the time. I drove past a centrelink this morning and there would have been 100 people lined up out the front waiting to get in before it opens (also about 20 outside of CBA by the way)

Its almost like they make it as hard as possible to get the benefits and in the end you get that frustrated you just give up.

Exactly, question the facts. It seems a little to orderly for one country, while against the prospects of many other countries.

It was a trade move, and in history will be shown to be one of the greatest. Dumb arse westerners.

This is the reason I find myself in Dire Straights...I don't expect 'money for nothing and my cheques for free'...
Can anyone tell me, I have some shares, money to pay for them was redrawn from the home loan a year ago. $60k has turned into $24k market value, and wouldn't even be able to sell all for that.:(
Will they treat those shares as 'cash'?
Or, do they go against assets value...
would try to find out from the Centrelink website, but, well as per the thread title. Cheers.
 
To their credit, they have now admitted their DOS attack was just demand saturation due to high number of genuine people logging in
 
Maybe they need an online que system... with hold music that puts you to sleep... delay applications further...:cautious::speechless:

Just spent over an hour on My Gov/ Centrelink site.
Wow, it's really fast at 4am.
Got nowhere real quick!
So, they want to know everything they already know...
After an hour, got to the end of the process.
They want documents now. Fairy nuff you might think.
They want;
Proof I'm still married.
My saying so isn't enough, the wife has to log on and say, "I do"... and they want the marriage certificate because they lost their copy...
They want birth certificates for the kids, because they lost their copy....
They want bank statements.
They want a profit and loss statement for the last 3 months...
(sole trader)
They want evidence of the loan that we bought shares with, redrawn from home loan a year ago...
There's more, can't remember.
Tried using the digital or virtual assistant...
at one stage, I typed, "are you dumb", it replied "please keep it respectful"

A dumb AI bot wanting respect?
That's what it has come to.

The bots name is Oliver... it's position is Customer Service Assistant with a picture of Oliver? a real human.
I got a bunch of screen grabs, will put them together later, for a laugh...

I think I would stand a better chance if the house had burnt down with the 17 page document.
Oh wait, they haven't given a cent to anyone who had their home raised either... REALLY?!

I do some advocacy work for people trying to get on to CL payments. Guess that part of my work is going to get busier and more difficult , assuming the program doesnt get locked down. The CL model really has become one based on mindless delays due to bureaucracy. Only those with the patience of a rock can tolerate dealing with that system...imo designed deliberately that way to turn away a high % of eligible people. Now that embedded culture is going to cause untold grief to our community. It will take a radical culture change to get that system to be as responsive as it now needs to be......
