XGL/Compiz under Ubuntu

The funny thing is: although linux users claim they hate windows and that's why they love linux, the fact is: linux is becoming more and more like windows...

linux is a clone of UNIX and is doomed.

welcome to the BSD community! Solaris and OS X came from BSD, not from linux....

cheers

I tried XGL and Compiz for a while under Ubuntu..but it crashed my computer ever 10 minutes and despite being eye candy just got in the way more than anything else.

I am about to switch to OSX full time from my Ubuntu machine.

It's funny the jargon that creeps into technical fields. You guys might as well be speaking Ukranian!!! A timely reminder for me when talking about options with all its jargon.

Cheers

Hi Guys
Just like to show the winbloze boys/girls what a computer should act like.
Ive been using linux for a while now, but recently i tried XGL/Compiz under ubuntu. The interface is completely different, its too hard to explain, so go see the demo at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0LanIA_X8lQ&mode=related&search=

or see
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/xgl for more info

Thanks for that xice, that's amazing....but going by ctp's comments it's a shame that it's unstable.... it's only new to the public so let's hope they work on it.

ah but the thing is, its very stable. i had not had a crash since i installed it (a couple months ago)

under gset-compiz, remove 'dock' its far from stable, but everything else in the demo works fine.
sure its still alpha, so i have a script that toggles between xgl and the original metacity.

for more help goto irc.freenode.net channel #ubuntu-au or #ubuntu-xgl
