Would you meet someone you have talked to off the internet?

the story goes i have been talking to/getting to know this girl (age 23) from Germany since about 2006..i met her of a forum

she seems legit in what she is saying, has given me a couple of photos in the past (though is reluctant to give me any recent ones - her belief is that she looks better in person)..

also speaks good english (even slang - is that a rub off from forums these days?) i have spoken to her once on the phone before too

now, she intends coming to Australia in December with a friend of hers (female),

i am not sure whether to take what she says with a grain of salt and play it by ear? she might be leading me on?

anyhow, has anyone met someone else from the internet (overseas) and how did it turn out? what risks are involved?

Skype YT almost every day.

Also met Constable and Kipp, but they have left.

Not sure why you wouldn't pursue a friendship (or more) through the net.

I have an old friend who met a girl through the net, from England, and they are now married.

Risks: Don't overcommit.

with Skype is all you require a headset and maybe a video camera to talk into?

For your potential girlfriend, I'm surprised you haven't done the vidcam and headset thing. Only costs $50 or so.

I recommend that before you overcommit to anything.

just make sure u dont let them bind your wrists too tightly!

hrmm yeh - thing that gets me is her reluctance, says she is going to get pics in a few months or a webcam and does not commit.. but seems genuine?

talking to her on the phone doesn't seem a problem

just hope when she rocks up to the airport she is not ugly

When I was a youf I used to arrange to meet up with people I had spoken to on the CB radio ... at least they were local and I could ride my bike.

Agro, nothing wrong with meeting ppl on the net - Prawnster and I thanks to this forum are beer buddies and I've had plenty of other friends met of the net. It is after all a communication tool.

If she's not what you are after as either a friend or other, then you don't have to see her afterwards do you...

mate, have you seen Eurotrip? Look what happens when they go to Germany. What one poor bloke thought was 'Club Thundersex' turned out to be 2 giant dudes with some not very pleasant toys... BE CAREFUL!!!

All jokes aside, what have you got to lose in just meeting her? If your werent willing to meet her, why would you spend all this time talking to her online, exchanging pic's and talking on the phone? That is, unless it was the safety of being able to do all this without meeting her or do anything else that attracted you in the first place.

I have met heaps of ppl from forums, all turned out good. However, I've met my fair share of females online too. I wont say all, but ALOT are extremely crazy and have issues. Can seem nice at first, but damn, there are some very, very loopy ones. Although I did meet my g/f on there, we have been together for almost 1yr and i couldnt be happier

i love the stereotypes in this thread - automatically assume every German girl is hot or attractive

well, she is only average - prob find better in australia imo.

Don't worry, Germany was fine... the club (Vandersexxxx) was actually in Amsterdam. It's not a complete loss either - they give out free tshirts

Though the movie may not be completely factual, in 2006 I went to Bratislava being inspired by the movie and unfortunately it was an actual city and nothing like what was depicted
