Ok I am pretty angry.

I need to FIND the LINK to install the XP2 or XP3 update after reformatting my computer. Do you think I can find it? NO.

If someone could be kind enough to help me it would be much appreciated.

Snake, do a search on "slipstreaming sp3" via your favourite search engine.
What this means is you can create a new install disk with the service pack included, so if you need to instyall again, sp3 is added during the install.

It just saves time for you..

cheers,

Just on this point...

I also formatted my comp last night, but have lost all my cds for the drivers. I have found most of what i need, but how the hell do i figure out what GFX card i have so i can install the driver for that??

Prawn, my graphics card brands all use the same driver set.
The two most common are ATI and NVidia.

If you right click on my computer > properties > hardware > device manager > display devices. This should show you what adapter you have. Go to the relevant web page and download. You just need to make sure you download the correct driver for the operating system as a rule.

Report back here if you get stuck.

Thanks Stan 101, but i still cant get it. Maybe i had too big a night last night.

Attatched is a screenshot of what i vnt been able to get drivers for.

Where exactly does it say if its nvidia or ati?

ok here's what you do. open a command prompt. go to Start> Run> and type in lower case cmd and press enter.

you should get something like this C:\doucme~nts\username>

then type in the word debug in lower case and press enter.

you should now see a dash -.

now type in d C000:0010 and press enter.

you should get something like this.
C000:0010 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00-3C 01 00 00 00 00 49 42 ........<.....IB
C000:0020 4D 00 16 7A 00 69 F7 00-00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 M..z.i..........
C000:0030 20 37 36 31 32 39 35 35-32 30 FF FF 29 63 C2 DE

now type in the letter d and press enter. do this step 3x or 4x.

until you get something like this.

C000:00C0 63 70 71 2E 30 32 33 20-36 20 00 4D 41 43 48 36 ATI Radeon 9200.
C000:00D0 34 47 56 50 43 49 4D 54-53 44 55 3F 00 00 4A 00 4GVPCIMTSDU?..J.
C000:00E0 00 A0 03 60 EC 02 00 00-00 19 0F 80 04 04 04 04 ...`............
C000:00F0 E4 07 83 00 CB 00 00 03-FF FC 00 10 FF EF CE 01 ................
C000:0100 CE 03 00 00 00 00 FF FF-00 00 00 B0 FF FF FF 4F ...............O

in this example the video card is ATI Radeon 9200.

good luck.

Snake

keep in mind you have have some quirky things with SP3 and depending on how they affect you may want to consider SP2 agin till SP3 is more stable.

Thanks xyz, worked a charm.

ATI Radeon 6900pro

Now off to find the driver

Stan 101 and SevenFX,

Thanks for the assistance and comments.
I installed Sp2 and have left it at that for the moment. I figure that it will be ok until I know more on Sp3.

Prawn,

There is a way to find what you have on your system but it is best to do it before you reformat. Then you can get drivers off the net, and trust me you need them. Perhaps your screen is still large.

Note: There is reference to Belarc Advisor. It should be run before a format if you don't have driver disks. Look at step 2 in the article. Read step 6 and it refers to step 2 being your friend.

Cheers....

Snake,

I thought i had all my cds with the drivers on it, but it has gone missing somewhere.

Belarc is a great little program. And the way xyz showed me to find out my gfx card worked a treat so now everything is up and running properly again.

Thanks all
