Why do brainy people look so geeky?

I think this might be a fast disappearing stereotype. Throughout Australasia, plastic surgery, dentistry and fashion stylists are now mainstream and very much the trend with young and old, male and female. There are plenty of parents who want to give their offspring the best chance possible and don't mind paying for it.

These kids biggest hurdle was not their looks,it was their intellect,why should anyone change that.And for about looks I`m horrified that someone actually would even suggest that type of behaviour as being even on the border of acceptable.
 
My Son Kris would "Fit" in this catagory.
Kris Is a Physist he is just finishing his Doctorate at Adelaide Uni
in Laser and Photonics.
Unlike his Dad he isnt sports inclined I did anything that even looked like sport.Still do.
Kris reads Mathamatics books!
Is involved in using helium as a conductor in fibre optics which could increase the capacity of Fibre optics 60000 times---amazing--well beyond my comprehension.

Thing is Kris's circle of friends mostly are involved in research to some degree.
Simply they are different to the sporty kids.

But as far as sense of work ethic and humor Kris is well up there.
As he developes with the opportunities that are presented--He is off to Melbourne to present a paper to academics on Monday--his social skills will improve.

Kris isnt an ugly guy he takes after his dad---devistatingly handsom.
 
Tech,these kids,didnt lack social or any other skill,the way it looked to me was that it was everyone else who lacked manners and grace.They were exceptionally bright kids who unfortunately were made to feel that to be bright was not such a good thing.Looks wise ,I doubt that any of us on this forum wouldve turned our backs to them.They will grow in confidence and be absolutely beautiful human beings,the "good looking" ones have only one thing to look forward to,getting uglier.
Glad your son is so well adjusted.

LOL... everytime i see your picture there realist i just laugh so hard.,....

I believe that you can be smart (brainy) and be good looking too.. i mean you can't say all or most of the doctors and laywers which i presume is intelligent are ugly.. but then again i could be wrong

But i do agree that there are some type of brainy people who are not so good looking. I describe these people as being the "geeky" ones who love to dwell on books and think up theories and generally don't like socialising with the world out there. They are the people who live in their own little world full of their own little ideas and don't care what others think of them. I do believe these are the people your talkign about. I really think these are very unique and there could be genes that make them that brainy that way. Perhaps if there are enough reasons (potential money making ideas) that researches would do experiments and researches on these type of people.. But then again i think these peopel won't volunteer themselves ^__^..

The geek or he who employs the geek's?
 
It could have something to do with perception and perhaps a bit of jealousy. If you can't match them in brains, let's see if we can't find something about them which is less good... I know plenty of dumb ugly people, it's just that their stupidity is more dominant than their ugliness, so I think of them as dumb first. I agree with the comment about the Australian female chess champion: she is absolutely stunning. Probably bites her nails though

Ive got a big head (so big brain?), dont wear glasses. I guess im smart lol? I think to much thinking takes a toll on your physical appearance
