hey guys, im doing diploma of business and commerce at TAFE, but i always wanted to work within financial system, and couple of months ago i found out that, i have to finish diploma of financial services, so on, im doing diploma of business and commerce now, almost finished the first semester which is Cert IV in Business and commerce, what do you think would be the the choice for me? to drop off and get a refund a pay off for diploma of financial services or it would be better to finish diploma of business and commerce and only then to start doing diploma of financial planning. Also it can be a bit tricky, i would finish diploma of business and commerce, but the government will not Subsidise fees anymore, the price for my diploma now is 3k after the 1st of july it will be almost 15k, and im really afraid of whats gonna happen to diploma of financial services, Is the price gonna increase too? coz i dont really feel like i like doing commerce, but in a next semester there would nice subjects, like myob, making financial reports etc, and considering that i wanna open my business in a future i think it would an advantage for me if i get it done.
basically my questions are: Is the price gonna increase on RG146 after the first of july? is it better for me to finish off Tafe first. Then to get any job , just in purpose to get money and pay for RG146 (coz i wanna finish it asap, and there wouldnt be anytime to look for a nice office job, i would rather get something in hospitality for 1-2 months to get enough money for RG146)(the main point its much faster to get a job in hospitality)(plust overtime), so is it better to finish tafe first? and then RG146. The last very important question, how long is it gonna take me to finish RG146? (keep in mind, that i was teaching myself finance for 2 years, i watched the whole course on youtube (finance)24 hours, Economics (macro, micro) for 19-20hours, Then buffetsbooks, and i read books like intelegent investor, securitiy analysis etc. Just wanna know how long it can take me to finish it

Google a website called invested, there is wealth of information in relation to all things RG146. Also have a look at Kaplan.

thanx but, its not really what i was looking for

i know all what i need about RG146,
except:
1) if the price going to change after 1st of july
2) how long does it take to finish? if i do it really fast, like non-stop

1) - Try asking your TAFE Student Services, if not, call these people: http://studyassist.gov.au/sites/studyassist/helpfulresources/pages/contact-us
Since they're the government organisation that organise all the HECS-DEBT/HELP.

2) - It depends I would assume, online courses as far as I know can be finished as soon as you possibly can. Face to Face I would imagine would be a duration of one year. There is lots of Diploma's in Financial Planning and the like, some viewed upon better than others.

Do you know exactly or likely what you'd like to do in the finance industry?
If you're half way through your current diploma, it would be a waste of 6 months or so if you just dropped out. Bare in mind, commerce and finance are quite similar and you'll probably over-lapse some knowledge which you can use from your commerce diploma, in your finance diploma. - As you said, reading financial statements etc.

I wouldn't expect a finance diploma to go to in depth, I could be wrong. Instead I think they'll touch over lots and perhaps focus on a couple of key areas.
P.S - By what I hear and read, you can basically get a diploma to become a financial planner out of a cereal box these days. Perhaps the reason people have lost faith in them, since the quality as dropped off - apparently so anyway. Take a look at AMP's Horizon Academy, amongst other financial planning diplomas.

thanx for you response
yes, i know what i really wanna do in my life, i always wanted to be a risk manager, but it takes a long way to go. i think i'd better work within financial system like advice people, in what company would be the best for them to invest money in, and of course to do the financial planning for them, and then after i get enough experiences and good records of my investments, probably would open my own financial company. Coz i checked on seek.au under section Banking/finance, and everywhere it says that you have to finish RG146, not all of them but most of them, at least these places where i would to work in. I dont think that i'm gonna quit TAFE, (not a quitter), i'm thinking to do DIPLOMA OF BUSINESS AND COMMERCE, and Diploma of financial services at the same time. (yes it might sound a bit hard, but i dont think that i would be so hard, coz anyways everyday i have like 5 hours of doing nothing, so i'd better do some studies on finance and pass my diploma of financial services. what about the diploma of business and commerce? well i think i can finish all of my assignments in class, should not be so hard). I understand that diploma is much harder than cert IV, but i done diploma of justice last year, and made a conclusion that its a bit useless for me, and diploma isn't that hard as people say.

To give you an idea when I did RG146 with Kaplan it took about 40 hours of study on each module or subject, tests were open book. At the end of the day you will just tick boxes of regulatory requirements, but learn little on how to make money.

I had to do the rg146 for my current job.
After already completing a double degree in comm/bus I found it was super super easy. Unless its a requirement for your job I wouldnt do it...its only relevant if you want to get into financial planning as the assignments are just producing statements of advice...

I think it took me about 20 hrs per topic all up...and Im a bit of a perfectionist, probably could do each in 10-12 if you are confident in your knowledge to not read the entire modules..

The stockbroker firm I spoke with said the bare minimum and industry requirement was the Professional Diploma Stockbrokers Program - http://www.stockbrokers.org.au/Education/ProfessionalStockbrokersProgram/tabid/235/Default.aspx

Of course they would probably prefer a degree qualification or better, perhaps not always.

The one on the website is the industry recognized one I was told
Looking at the practice exam, I reckon most people could pass it with an afternoons worth of study.
