Hi all,

Any thoughts on the any of the better Broadband deals out there at the moment??

Who is your prefered server?

I'm looking at getting a package deal, with phone line rental or some such..however not to keen on Telstra, we seem to have continual problems at work..

Any thoughts??

Re: Which Broadband Deal ??

Optus had a recent offer which looks good. Appears to be considerable savings but read the fine print.

Friends tell me iinet is good too (good stock too if the chart is anything to go by). I don't trust Telstra so I'm not going to give them a cent to play around with.

Check out the deadlines for the offers too as I think some will end soon. Competition is increasing so things may get even better.

Re: Which Broadband Deal ??

Check out the Whirlpool forums for a lot of info and discussions on Australian broadband.

I use Optus Cable myself and find it very good, however it's not the cheapest around.

Cheers,

Hi, I'm on a Netspace 512 connection - they are extremely good, in terms of stability and price.

Hi Barbarian Investor,

im with TPG on their ADSL connection, there relatively good and cheap with prices, though the only problem i find with them is, if your talking on a cordless phone for a certain period of time, there seems to be a problem with there ADSL, the connection, will fall out and try re-connecting until a connection is made, that can be quite annoying. though overall, i would only rate TPG as a sound (average or fair) provide, they still have some stability problems every now and again.

Cheers,
sis

Re: Which Broadband Deal ??

I use Swiftel myself, no complaints at all. I also know of others using Netspace who are happy.

SIS, that dropout problem sounds more like a local issue with your phone and/or ADSL modem. Do you have a filter on your phone line? I've got one phone in the house (out of 4) that doesn't have a filter on it and it drops the ADSL connection about 50% of the time when it's used. The other phones (with the filters) never drop the connection.

Hi RodC,

there are few telephone ports in the house, though there is one line, that doesnt have a filter, will get a filter, and see if that can resolve the problem.

Cheers & Thanks,
sis

Re: Which Broadband Deal ??

Check out www.primusonline.com.au
They have just released a 2000k+ deal (providing your local exchange supports it) for $49.95 with 12GB downloads with excess downloads shaped to dial up speed. Bundled with their $29.95 telephone deal it works out pretty cheap. They do have a 2000k+ deal for 29.95, but with a 400mb download limit, with 15c per mb excess.
As my exchange will not support adsl until February, i have joined up on a 512k plan for $49 with 2Gb download and excess shaped plan, with the ability to change over to the 2000k plan when my exchange supports it.....hopefully this is not some slick pipe dream sales pitch.
I have not experienced aol/primus broadband, but have been a dial up customer for 5 years and the only problem i have ever had with them was when they locked my account after my credit card details expired, which was promptly rectified after a 5 minute phone call to their support team - 10/10 for their service.

Re: Which Broadband Deal ??

ITS TIME TO RESURRECT THIS IMPORTANT FORUM.....
well its important to me cos im still on dialup and wanting to find a good value for money 'dont wanna play games' broadband service - good for info downloads etc like most us traders/investors use....

please put forward details of your broadband provider, cost, reliability, terms etc etc and suitability to an investors requirements.

p.s. i know about whirlpool forums, but its full of gamers

thanks in advance

Re: Which Broadband Deal ??

I got Telstra cable had it for about 3 month and so far no problems my reason for using telstra, no Optus in area, is that i wanted to use VOIP so no more landline price $70/month savings $35 for landline and half price telefon calls.
My total monthly bill went from $150 to $90-100.
God luck

Re: Which Broadband Deal ??

Dude, you really cant go past unwired.

cheap as
high download limit
high speed
NO CONTRACTS
and the best thing - PORTABLE (for the trader on the go!!)

was with them in Syd then when they moved to Melb I cancelled out of Bigpond wireless (CRAP!) and went straight back.

Re: Which Broadband Deal ??

I use Optus cable. 12GB/mth for about $68, although that rate might be discounted because I also switched two phone lines to Optus when I got the service. If you exceed the monthly quota, they limit the bandwidth to about 56Kbit rather than charge extra.

Very rarely have problems and it's fast. However, it's dependant on the service being available where you live. They also restrict certain things, like operating web servers (they physically block port 80), and I think they also cap some of the ports commonly used by peer-to-peer programs.

Re: Which Broadband Deal ??

Hi I've had trouble with iprimus in the past so went to AAPT...when I changed over to AAPT I started having troubles with my phoneline....I could ring out but people couldn't call in ...servicemen had to come around twice...they assured me that it wasn't because I had gone over to AAPT but it seemed a little co incidental to me.
Hey Sam 76 you couldn't shed some more info on unwired
