I read somewhere of an Australian technology stock that is set to boom - as it is based on cloud computing (the next big thing apparently, although that concept has been with us for a while...)
Anyone like to hazard a guess the name of said stock? The source didn't mention the name and I'd like to check it out. Or anyone like to give their p.o.v on a good technology stock?
Also while we're at it - do people think this year will see better or worse returns than 2013?

You got that from the Motley Fools email. Remind me to unsubscribe from the garbage they send me. It's all marketing trying to get you to buy their packages.

These next big things set to boom have often been "discovered" by the market long before you read about it in a newspaper or tip sheet. It could be VOC - Vocus with fibre and Data Centers or NXT perhaps. Difficult IMO to value Data Centers as we don't know how much capacity other players such as Google and other multinationals are building.

There seems to be about 88 Australia wide you can hire some space on now.

Yes I do. ;)

Re: Australian technology stock

I get these e-mails, and have been wondering who it is they are talking about. My best guess was that it was NXT which I have been following for a while; and I almost signed up for their subscription the other day. I haven't yet, but their recomendations do generally seem pretty reliable.

I began looking into NXT when they were around the $1.50 mark, and wish I had of gotten in then, but it is really hard, like robusta said, to value these companies when you consider they are running on start up capital (I think? Or they were?) and you have these other huge players - Google, Amazon, etc. that the potential for large profit for data centers in Australia is questionable (to me), especially considering the bandwidth costs compared to non Aus services.

I don't doubt that cloud services will become bigger and bigger business as many software business models move to an online subscription service; but whether NXT or any other Australian company will benefit hugely is debatable.

cloud computing, it would want to be something really different from the current players in the market, everyone is getting into this at the moment.

I wouldnt mind shares in MEGA though,!! :) They are a bit different with their encryption and security and about to bring out some interesting products in regards to communication as well..

Other possible tech shares, maybe new player Freelancer might be worth a look.
