Every time i read something in the paper or see it on TV i am just about reduced to tears thinking about what has happened to Daniel Morcombe and what his family must be going through.According to media reports , the police maybe closer to solving this mystery and bringing someone to justice. When they do finally catch the grub, i will be the crazy person out the front of the courthouse insiteing the crowd and screeming for a lynch mob mentallity, i understand capital punishment is cruel and barbaric, but i would be happy to beat the perpetrater to death with a pool noodle :whip

Haven't any other people, including young people of Daniel's age, gone missing in the same period of time?

Don't recall seeing the level of publicity devoted to Daniel plus large reward on their behalf.

Maybe others who have disappeared have been found.

We still have more than our fair share of unsolved dissapearances, i really don't know why this one strikes such a chord with both the media and the public, to me it's personnel because i was involved in the search, but for the majority of Australians i think they have been watching this tragedy unfold and could also do with some closure.

my take on this is....
1st....the person of interest should never have been released from jail in the first place for an earlier crime.....think dept error.....hence the publicity...
and he was in the area at the time of the dissapearance....but the cops did not twig.....or a coverup of the earlier mistake...ie fo the release from jail
2nd...the rape of a 9 year old girl, and her mother would not allow it to be reported...as she was a minor at the time....(think the law is wrong if they need the parents permission to report a crime)
3rd...believe police may have been aware he committed other crimes...

to sum it up...the publicity is about the bungling by those responsible....and they will be brought to account...hopefully

I just wonder how the families of those other missing people must feel about all the publicity and reward money given to this one child.

I cannot understand why Daniels case has received so much media attention. Of the 35,000 people who go missing every year in Australia 1,600 are never found (http://www.missingpersons.gov.au/nmpcc/faqs.aspx#a3). Why do we single out a particular case as if it's the only instance a child has ever gone missing. Shameful really.

As for provoking mob mentality, maybe you should go back to the dark ages. Whatever happened to innocent until proven guilty?

Just re read my thread, i cant see where it mentions persecuting the innocent , and if you think child abducters are innocent , perhaps you should readjust your moral compass, most people would have realised that the term "grub" referred to a convicted criminal. As for mob mentality i certainly don't condone it , but then again, i'm not real keen on child abduction either , so i will weigh that one up and i think the angry mob may win out, with any luck the rest of society will realise that something has to be done to protect our kids.

Here we go again, another case of selective grieving. Certainly tragic for the family involved but why do people insist on ramming their own emotional reactions down the throat of others?

I suppose thats true , it really should more have been protecting our kids in society as opposed to singeling out one particular case , i picked this one , because i have had a bit to do with it but also as i believe it may soon be closed which would be great for not only the family but a lot of people involved. In saying that, the media does select one particular case and flog it to death, JonBenét Ramsey springs to mind, my main concern is as a society we don't just allow this sort of thing to be swept under a rug

I've never heard of the term "grub" used in that manner, to me it refers to a larvae.

Please point out where I mention that child abductors are innocent.

If you read my post there are three points;

1. Many children go missing every year and this case is the only one in the media.
2. Mob mentality doesn't belong in modern society.
3. Once a 'suspect' is brought in they media will portray them as guilty before they have a chance of a fair trial.

If proven guilty inmates don't take kindly to child killers/rapers. I believe in karma so what comes around goes around.

Another thing anyone with children should be mindfull of , is the amount of undesirables now targeting kids on , MSN , Facebook, twitter, and MySpace, unfortunately the rise of these social networking sites have not only made keeping in touch with friends and family easy , which is great but it has also made it easier for grubs to target our kids without even leaving the comfort of their own home. They trawl these sites looking for kids in their area and then spend weeks trying to groom them, just recently a local taskforce in QLD raided 22 houses with all of these germs following the same format. So keep an eye on your kids whilst online and ensure they don't give out too many personal details .

me neither but my mum used to call me a grub if I got food all over my face or down my shirt.

Spot on......... they know who did it, it all comes down to the weaker than weak admistration of justice in this country, what was that creep doing on the streets ? Those who let him out should be named, tried and convicted of
negligence resulting in death and locked away for a while with those of a similar ilk to the one they let out. But as usual nothing ever happens, no wonder the mafia flourished, just send me the membership forms.

No as soon as they're in prison they're animals, so pack mentality is OK...

PS I'm trying to pick up my posts per day so I can keep entering the stock picking competition even if I'll never win.

Kincella , so true, and a lot of us are puting a computer in our childs bedroom as it makes a great babysitter, and then because all their friends have a mobile phone we don't want our child to be the odd one out so we get them one, and then we complain because our kids lock themselves away in their bedroom , MSNING and TXTING all the time. And yes i am guilty of that one.

Some of the relevant points in my opinion are : The police knew that the pedaphile in question was a possible suspect but knowing who did the crime and proving it are two different things.Daniels case was more publisised for better or worse because he was not accounted for for only a few minutes and this fact strikes a chord with parents everywhere.Finally why isn't this pedaphile scum made to talk by whatever means to make sure it isn't him and finally why is this person being let out of jail at all.
