Thought I would post this in the newbie section, since Im a bit of a newbie and other newbies might find it interesting.

So the question is, what sectors are in your portfolio?

IF you want to expand you can let us know why you have more in one sector than another etc

Hi Matty, may i ask why you have no energy stocks in your portfolio atm? Just curious. :)

I have been building my portfolio up over the last 24 months, I just havent had the $ to buy any yet - last purchase was into the health sector. I am still looking for some energy, IT and retail stocks at the moment.

note I am heavy on mining stocks anyway at the moment.

I still have a little diversifying to do...however still want at least 40% exposure to the minerals super cycle....20 stocks in portfolio with 19 long term holds and 1 to get rid of.

Still working on increasing exposure to financials and health.

So for the sake of fufilling the holy grail of "Diversification" you will include in your p/f sectors which are for very good reasons currently out of favour?

(Ergo, the SP isn't rising.)

Guess it depends on your view of peak oil and current valuations of energy companies, but am very surprised you do not have any energy shares. Attached is my SMSF sector view. I am very long energy compared to the market and underweight financial due to my view on energy prices versus my view on Australian banks exposure to the inevitable slowdown in Australian household gearing.

As i said i still have some diversifying to do, and funny you should mention energy as ive had a buy order for BPT sitting there unfilled since Monday, and i know with 21% of my portfolio showing financial's its easy to simply assume the big banks...however i only have one bank and its Suncorp so in reality, more insurance than bank...im assuming that my other financial sector holdings are the SLF property ETF and my one and only LIC, Contango Microcap.

I remember in March 09 the stock market was not the flavour of the month either.

Thanks to this site, I was able to confidentially pick up some well priced stocks - many have since doubled (ie CBA) and more (MQG) and have made what I believe is a good entrance into the stockmarket.

I work in the healthcare sector with a large international company and I am privy to the significant profits made even with the past GFC.

Companies are falling over themselves to buy private hospitals, day surgeries and retirement villages because the population is ageing and this is evidenced in other countries.

I am not a day trader and am looking for long term stocks so it suits me to pick up stocks at prices that I am happy with when they are available.

It has nothing to do with diversification but my criteria for my portfolio.

Thanks for the input.
