Hi guys & gals, (and moderators)
Just wondering what makes a moderator a moderator?
What qualifications do you need to become a mod?
How do mods select new mods?
Why is it that some mods (no names mentioned) are more
inclined to close threads then others mods?
Do mods get together in private and talk about mod things behind closed doors?
Why do some mods have more to say about what gets written in threads then other mods?
Just curious.
Thanks.
May the mods be with you.

Mods are spontaneously generated whenever Joe spills beer on his keyboard... (organic matter + electricity). ;)

No No no it's like this

Just wondering what makes a moderator a moderator?
Large rippling muscular frames that ooze testosterone and sex appeal
What qualifications do you need to become a mod?
PHD from the School of Awesome
How do mods select new mods?
Trial by combat!!! 50 quatloos on the red one!!

Not enough bribes cross their palms
Do mods get together in private and talk about mod things behind closed doors?
Ha you obviously don't know the secret handshake
Why do some mods have more to say about what gets written in threads then other mods?
Some of them are the strong silent type
Just curious.

Seriously though, moderators are appointed after I have observed their behaviour on the forums for a significant period of time and have determined that they have the necessary diplomatic and technical skills to handle the position.

Well they aren't really appointed. They are invited by me to become a moderator and then it's up to them whether or not they take it on.

It is a very demanding and difficult position. It takes up a lot of their time and they do cop a fair bit of abuse by some of those that have to be pulled up for crossing the line and violating forum rules. Thankfully those individuals are in a very small minority and I have found that most ASF members are very grateful for their assistance.

They help keep ASF running smoothly and I am always very appreciative of their efforts. :)

Hi Joe (mod of all mods)
How many have you invited to become mods, over your reign at ASF?
How many have accepted & how many have declined?
Has there ever been an occasion when you had to get rid of a mod for one reason or other?
Are there any of the original ASF mods left?
Sorry for all these questions, just interested.
Long live the mods.

I've appointed 11 mods in the last four and a half years and only ever had one member decline the offer and that was because he felt he didn't have enough time to do the position justice.

Never had to get rid of a mod. We occasionally have differences in opinion over various things but it never gets nasty. They are all very reasonable people. :)

The first moderator was 'Stefan' who was one of ASF's earliest members. He still pops in every now and again although he isn't quite as active as he used to be. I appointed them slowly one at a time after that. Some of the mods have taken extended leave and some of them just aren't around as much when they have more important matters to attend to in their personal lives. Sometimes some of them just need a break.

I have actually met two of them. I stayed with kennas and his wife for four days when I was in Peru last year. They were very kind to put me up and put up with me! :D I also met Stefan for a beer or two here in Brisbane. The others are on my list! :p:

You were hard work Joe! ;) I can only vaguely remember the first night you were here. I think we crashed some time after 4...eeeek. Nice that you survived the Inca Trail. Actually, finally, doing the proper Inca Trail that you did in a few weeks. Been training lots. Not...

Moderaters do a great job until they send me a dreaded "notification"

They work tirelessly to keep excited mobs of neer-do-wells and narcissists in line.

As Groucho said " I would not be a member of any club that had me as member"

The demise of ASF will come once that happens.

Keep up the good work, you mods.

I myself am a rocker.
