We Are Not Alone?

If you are taking the scientific approach/big bang theory, then you must be aware that the universe is actually endless and continuing to expand (into what im not sure ).

But countless other planetary systems with similar distances between their star and planet, being similar to earth, have been identified, so the odds are actually not that small, if your looking even simply at Earth like planets.

If you take into account the fact that life-forms may not neccesarilly be as we percieve it and can live in vastly different environments, then the odds are greater once again

I thought there were 3 scenarios?
- expand whilst slowing, eventually to collapse in a 'big crunch'
- expand whilst accerlating, open ended case
- expand whilst slowing to nothing, matter is spread uniformly and the universe takes on a state of total equilibrium

anyway, that's off topic...

Well that's what I meant! I believe there's a good possibility for life, just not intelligent life that look identical to humans (bipeds, human shape) and that fly spaceships that look like things out of a 50's science fiction film!
This is a vast topic with a vast amount of opinions, both professional and personal! ...but I enjoy chatting about it!
 

The big freeze in this scenario. And again, all this is just related to ONE, 'theory'.

Interesting topic though. Even of planetary systems which are similar distances from their own star, do they have water? Do they have an iron core or are they just being destroyed by the sun without one?

Though, I once saw a simulation of an example of the type of life forms that could evolve in an environment similar to Jupiter, with a long stem hanging down, taking in all the minerals and a baloon like top, floating in the gasses. LOL, but was pretty realistic and really demonstrated how things could evolve to suit their environment. Could be life on planets completely different to ours.

On another note, I know a guy (won't go into anymore details) who apparently worked in many high security global defence areas (I know he at least was a pilot in the airforce and built robots for Governments and companies), and he was CERTAIN aliens had visited earth. I laughed when I first heard it, but on further thought, it may not be too insane.

I would say time travel would be the most likely scenario, unless they found a wormhole or worked out how to travel MUCH faster than the speed of light.
 
To be honest, it would be totally unsual if there was *not* alien life somewhere in the Universe. Is the entire human race that self-centered that we believe we could be the only one in the entire Universe? It's a big place, and we know very little.

Whether they have visited earth already as little green men is another question. I think not, but you never know. Until personally I see an alien myself, I still will never be convinced.

After reading this thread and the crazy religion thread and observing which participants said what, it became apparent that many people subscribe to some crazy beliefs. But people, being basically self-delusional, don't like to think of their own beliefs as crazy so they point to the different beliefs of other people (beliefs they wouldn't dream of holding) and exclaim that "Those ones over there, who believe X, they are the ones with the crazy beliefs."

Don't know.

Just put it there for discussion, and i don't really have an opinion except that anything is possible.

In all things i try to be an open book. For instance the crop circles that appear near to where I live. Some are hoaxes, but they are definitely different the the... ummm "real" ones.

So where do the real ones come from? Nobody seems to know. Now in a land so crowded as England, how the hell has no-one seen one being done?

Well, people claim they have, but of course they are regarded as nutters.

Open mind, and I won't fall into the arrogance of believing that any "theory" will cancel out any possibility.

Let's just for a moment make the assumption that these dudes do exist (and I'm not saying they do or don't), but if they do, according to sightings they all seem to be humanoid.

Wouldn't that be fascinating? I often think about that, have done for years

If life is by random evolution, that would seem impossible.

Is there some order to the universe which causes life to evolve a particular way? Is there indeed some unifying force shaping how the universe is? Or a million other possibilities.

Just daydreaming here folks. We don't really know anything do we?

Yes, I often consider the size of our universe, and beyond, and it's hard to imagine something else not being out there, in some form.

However, the chance of life being exactly like ours is statistically impossible.

Well, that's what some physicists have said anyway. Paul Davies is one supporter, arguing that our world is so impossible to have evolved naturally, that it had to be designed. Got something to do with it's size, distance from the sun, the moon size and distance, and all the minerals, water and chemicals and their proportions, that allows life to exist.

And, considering that, it's hard to imagine another human planet, but perhaps some other life form that doens't require an atmosphere to be 78% nitrogen, 20% oxygen, 0.1% argon, and 0.038% carbon dioxide, or thereabouts.

Maybe a planet of giant insects like on that movie.....um....forgot.
 

It could possibly be explained by the theory that we were spawned from these creatures millennia ago. It is a widely thought concept, many scholars of linguistics believe this to be the story told by the ancient Sumerians. And the Christians believe that "God" created man in his own image.

Could #26 be an account of the aliens discussing making 'man', then #27 the dominant one (the alpha alien) allowing it, as 'his'?

I've always been cynical about 'Eve being created from Adam' as it's FACT that the human is created female and when a Y chromosome is added it becomes male. As a kid I'd always wondered why guys had nipples (vestigial breasts?) and the penny dropped when I first learnt of X and Y chromosomes.

Evolution purports that life began in the sea as Genesis 'records'.

Well the fellas in Genesis Chapter 1 #26 must have been males as they were in collusion about letting "US make man in OUR image after OUR likeness".

Fish and animals and birds were made. Then:
Chapter 2 #7: "And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul."

But no... The 'boss' God was a male! (not an it) See #27:
"God made man in his image".

That's why women should not be ordained in churches!

Then later he made woman from one of man's ribs.
Do men have one less rib than women? If so, on which side?

Yet if those who made the decision in #26 - "Let us make man in our image, after our likeness" - were indeed all male, as purported by #27, did they mate with the female rhesus monkey as some evolutionists claim? Or maybe just the 'boss god' had this honor?

Could 'the helpers' be related to the ET aliens depicted on cave drawings?

They must come back now and then to check on their work, for humans to have been around to see them again and draw them!

Here is some more out-there ideas.

The Karadshev Scale is the general method to measure how advanced a civilization can be. The scale has three categories called Type I, II, and III. These are based on the amount of usable energy a civilization has and can achieve.
Any advanced civilization must grow in energy consumtion faster than the frequency of life-threatening catastrophes....comets, ice ages etc etc.

Type I - Able to harness all of the power available on a single planet. (Estimated 10^16 watts)
Type II - Able to harness all of the power available from a single star. (Estimated 10^26 watts)
Type III - Able to harness all of the power available from a single galaxy. (Estimated 10^36 watts)

Could be we`re just not that special at all.
