Tradesim and Metastock issues

I have just downloaded tradesim for my laptop, windows 8.1, i am using MS version 9. I have been using this setup for years and am very happy with it, but my desktop died taking with it my working MS and tradesim, window XP. When i load the MS and try to run an exploration i get the the following warning 'Vitamin-C (DLL) Warning', it then goes on to say that 'messages cannot be sent to TradeSim.exe, this may be caused because the application is still loading or has hung, you may have to wait a bit longer on a slower machine before the application can respond'. I have tried the tradesim on two different machines with the same results, any ideas? Is this likely to be a MS problem rather than a tradesim one?
