A lot of hard work and caution should do it.

Luck does play a role.. .but as Edison once said, the harder I work the luckier I get.

Hard work and you have to go through being a loser before becoming profitable longer term i.m.o.

It's basically a numbers game. Forget needing to win more times than you lose for a start. You can have a 30% win percentage and be very profitable.

... and those that know the real secret, that have found the Sacred Formula, are more interested in applying it than writing about it on a free-for-all.

A bit off topic but if you are looking for share tips and you have bad feet: Then you will be able to trade your shares better and that may do the trick. That's the tip anyway or sharpening your knives as well ;) - or just maybe tipping you the wink.

don't be a forced seller ( if possible ) ( aka do NOT gamble/invest with money you NEED back at a certain time .. say a house settlement )

find a trusty ELECTRONIC calculator ( the computer software on this laptop has it's moments  ) and double check those numbers TWICE ( fat fingers happens to even the best )

read the forums for tips but THINK , it might be about discounts on the DRP plan or simply knowing where each step in the brokerage fees is . ( it might only save 1% but currently that is more than 2 years savings interest , so currently 1% extra is a big deal for a small investor )
