This mob have been flying too low and coming in to land from the wrong direction wind-wise and have been grounded.

Vivian, an old RAAF mate tells me it is not kosher to do either.

When you fly too low there is a possibilty you will hit rough ground travelling too fast.

When you come in with the wind in your **** there is a possibility you will overshoot or not be able to stop to get off the plane.

Poor people who travel coach will have to walk.

It has been rather obvious for quite some time that this airline spends as little as possible on everything that is visible to the public (service etc). That being so, my immediate thought is that if a business, any business, is cutting where it is highly visible then the odds are pretty high that they are cutting corners "behind the scenes" too. In this case, that would be pilots, maintenance etc.

I'd rather pay a few extra $ and have a greater chance of getting from A to B alive and decided quite some time ago never to fly Tiger for this reason. I don't mind reasonable cost cutting like being squashed in a bit to save some space and having to pay for food if I'm hungry (domestic flights aren't that long anyway...), but I want properly trained pilots flying a properly maintained aircraft and am more than willing to pay whatever is needed to ensure this is the case. If the plane falls out of the sky, then a bit of extra leg room or being seated in Business Class isn't going to help me... Spend the money where it matters - safety.
 
it was by far the cheapest option, good for frequent trips. $59 to transport your body and a bag 1000k's in 1.5 hours was a pretty good deal.

Landing with 10kt on the tail shouldn't be a prob and missed approaches happen.
But punching through the lowest safe altitude is a bit of a worry, under 2500 feet 8 nm out doesn't sound too flash then allegedly landing without a clearance is a real worry. CASA/ATSB will be a bit busy with this one..

That's based on various factors, not just safety. With Tiger's record of short notice cancellations, it's much the same as the "stay home" option anyway.

I'm not against budget airlines, I always fly the cheapest class, but I just want to have some confidence that the pilots know what they're doing and aren't likely to fall asleap or blatantly regard aviation regulations and that the aircraft has been properly maintained. I can live with cramped seating, no food etc that doesn't bother me in the slightest - that's a sensible way to keep costs down.

Eh, especially when the wind changes suddenly, it's not really their fault when they find themselves with several knots of tailwind on them when they turn final.

Doing anything without clearance is a bit of a worry.

We're booked to fly with Tiger in August, let's just hope this all settles down by then, their fares were almost half of the lowest we could get with jetstar. Flown with Tiger many times before, service is crap but it gets you to your destination.

Never had a problem with them before, although I'm beginning to get worried now.

Let's hope they get the boot soon, so we can rebook with Virgin.
