Ticket scalping

Hi guys,

I'd just like to get some opinions here, what do you think of scalping concert tickets?

Is it just supply and demand, or is it wrong to buy more tickets than you need and sell them at an inflated price?

To the person who is scalping, it is a 'smart' business to make a quick buck.

I think it is morally wrong. It's great that the Aussie Cricket Board is taking such a stance to protect their fans.

Yes it is simply supply and demand. But it isn't fair supply and demand. If all of the tickets were all auctioned off - then the resulting ticket prices would be fair supply and demand.

But as long as the ticket vendors aren't doing anything about it, there will always be scalpers online.

I think scalping tickets is simply blatant theft by stealth.

Imo the supply and demand argument scalpers use to justify their theft falls down because demand imo means buying no more than what you actually need and to buy more than you need and with a premeditated intent to offer for sale at a higher price is nothing more than blatant greed on the part of the scalpers.

For me, I group scalpers amongst the lowest forms of life with used cars saleamen and real estate agents

If it's blatant, then it can't be stealthy. And if it's stealthy, it can't be blatant. The words have opposite meanings ...

There is also risk involved, after all, scalper puts money on a table and takes the risk that will be stuck with them, maybe even have to sell it half or quarter price to recover some of the funds.

But since this is such a pushover, it shows that prices are reasonably low and that public should be protected, as many of us are not on high salary to be able to afford high price entertainment.

One of the problems is how to police it.

Possible solution, could be personalised ticket similar to airline ticket and the only reseller could be Ticketec.

Pain if kid gets sick, or change in plans or unforseen circumstances and we have to offload ticket quickly just before the event, but as with anything it is difficult to find solution that is 100% proof.

If I was the ACB first of all I'd sell tickets in lots of 4, or 2 adults 4 children. Or maybe lots of 6 at the most. 10 is too many.

Secondly, why not set up an auction themselves for say 2,000 of the tickets?

They get more money and dillute any scalping opportunities!!
