I'm currently looking into a few things that would help improving a traders daily life from a software point of view. What comes to your mind when you look at your current setup? What would it need to be almost perfect? What sort of tools would you consider helpful when you wouldn't have to pay too much money for it?

Would you prefer web based stuff, accessible from anywhere or rather a piece of software installed on your PC/MAC?

I'd appreciate your input.

I like web based applications. I like being able to do things from all over the world without the headache of having to install software.

Of course, I like to travel, so that's something that's important to me.

I'm one of those who dream of lazing on a tropical beach somewhere with a cool drink in one hand and a cordless mouse in the other... and a wireless connection to the internet of course.

All you need is a profitable method thats churning out a consistent return.
When you have that you wont and dont need the software-----it becomes obsolete.

That is perfection is it not?

Tech, true. That's why we're looking forward to read your suggestions and theories in a new thread. Believe me, you'll have an interested audience. Meanwhile I'm trying to collect some valuable information from other members that may be introduced into a possible extension of this forum.

Things like WAP price quotes for GPRS phones, members portfolios, news, charts, and so on. Depending on what people regard as nice or useful to have.

What comes to your mind when you look at your current setup?

A very interesting point, especially for myself being relatively new to trading.I have been thinking about trying to find some sort of formula for picking a stock.

I am sure I am not alone in reading about a stock, then researching, finding something you don't like then starting the whole process again.:asdf:
Very time consuming, it would be great to know in a few minutes some basic fundamentals which could eliminate some of the work involved.

I would definately prefer a program which I could adjust to suit my type of trading.I am sure there is this type of software around, I will have a look & post back on some options.:kiffer:
 
Unlike Joe, I don't like Web applications. Firstly they're usually far too slow, and secondly, they're dependant on having a Web connection. These are two of the main reasons I didn't like BullCharts.

Being a programmer and a fiddler , I like customisable software on my own computer that I can play around with. Combinations of adjustable parameters, macro languages, and plug-in facilities, like I get now in AmiBroker.

But whatever it is, it has to be fast (or at least not have significant delays). Nothing puts me off a piece of software quicker than it being slow!

As for my current setup, the only real thing that's missing that I would like is a magic indicator that always gives profitable trades . Otherwise it has a few things that are not ideal for me, but overall I'm very happy with it.

I would like to be sitting on a Dreamliner in First Class and watching my Metastock data and see a stock break above a trading range with high volume, and be able to click, "buy" .

Along the same lines and that being all ASX stock quotes feeding live into Amibroker.
 
Along the same lines, I would just love a simple financial statement that told the truth.
