Things I'm Grateful For

My parents for bringing me up.

Dad passed away when I was quite young

Unfortunately for mum, as things got better for me, she left this world.

Now that she is gone & reflecting back I could have provide her a better life.

Give your parents a better life/things while they are still around.

Thanks Mum & Dad for being good parents.

Goodonya, Superglue. We live in an age where it's fashionable to be critical of parents for all they get wrong. I'd bet you contributed to your mum much more than you perhaps think.

I'm with kgee in being grateful for public libraries, just marvellous.

Living in a warm climate.

Being financially OK.

Good friends.

Plentiful availability of really good food and wine.

A health system which, although we criticise it, is still better than that through much of the world.

Freedom of speech.

My garden.

The sea/beach.

Understanding that I have enough of everything: ergo no need to be competitive or want the latest of everything.

Music, especially the Bruch Violin Concerto and Beethoven's Ninth Symphony.

My puppy.:)

Australia. Compared to many other countries, we are living in paradise.

My health. I think being physically healthy is one of the most important things in life, and i am truly grateful that i was never struck down by any major illness or malformation (touch wood).

And ASF :)

I am very, very grateful that I was home the day my partner had an anaphylactic reaction. She'd never had one before and went from sneezing, to swelling of the face/tongue/throat, to passed out and not breathing in 5 minutes. She didnt even have a pulse. Thankfully, the paramedics arrived in time.

If she was alone, by the time she realised how bad it was she wouldn't have even had time to call 000 and give her address. It was the first day we'd both had off together in 2 weeks. I shudder to think what might have been if I was at work.

ahhh this is more like it, no whingeing old codgers here.

my wife for being so understanding, patient and healthy

my daughter for being born healthy

my unborn son for being healthy

the good people here that give excellent advice and ask for nothing in return

the internet for allowing me to work at home with my family 3 metres away

the rib fillet steak

and i guess i should mention the millions of suckers playing online poker who give, give, give and are happy to be paid with very poor advice

Great thread kgee - love libraries too : )

Things I am grateful for - plenty - mainly family, my 2 children

My close friends

Health

This beautiful country we live in, our home

The beach, the rain, the sun

The internet, for making everyone closer

Music, all sorts

the list goes on...

The thin sausages the local butcher makes, amber fluid to wash them down with and an ability to keep my body mass index at a healthy 23.5.

My folks who gave me a good education and who taught me to respect my fellow human beans:)

I've been through a few unpleasant situations in my life but I've always thought about it this way. I'm not starving, I have a roof over my head, I live in relative safety and we're not at war.

As I've often said to those who whinge about trivial things - there are millions of people who are homeless, fighting wars, seriously ill or starving right now. Be thankful you aren't one of them.

So what if you had to wait in the rain for a bus that was late, there are queues at the supermarket, your flight was delayed 3 hours and the mortgage repayments take half your pay. There are plenty of others who have never been on a bus or in a car, have nothing to eat, don't know that planes even exist and who live in truly horrid conditions. They'd swap places with you anyday.:2twocents

Yes!

We watched Tears of The Sun on the idiot box last night. The sub-plot was about genocide in Africa.

It reminded me that we have a lot to be thankful for. Most of us living in the West are in Disneyland.

It's all relative. All that matters is what we ourselves think, and if missing the train leads to a similar emotional state to starving that day, what's the difference? Yes, you can say that the difference is that one missed the train while the other starved, but like I said all that matters to us is how we feel about the situation, not what others think about it.

If we're thankful, who do we thank? Chance?

I'm very grateful when someone or something helps me when I ask for help. :)
