Bonds slugs No. 756 to pass Aaron as home run king

By John Donovan, SI.com
SAN FRANCISCO -- With a mighty swing of his black maple bat, in front of a raucous and all-forgiving home crowd at AT&T Park, San Francisco Giants slugger Barry Bonds became baseball's home run king Tuesday night, crushing career homer No. 756 deep into the stands in right field to wrest the most hallowed record in sports from Hank Aaron.

you've never played baseball pommie-g?
play that for a bit - and then try hitting a golf ball - lol
it's a piece of piss, - 300m is a snack !
i mean the bludy ball is stationary for a start

and let's face it,
a) the cricketers enjoy their milestones, and
b) one of the reasons the Aussies are such good cricketers is that they also play baseball - at least used to in the Allan Border days

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Allan_Border
and chops - the pitcher is probably on the same drugs as the batter

PS I concede that there's no US equivalent to the old pommie comment " that isn't cricket , old chap!"
I mean, you say
"that isn't baseball!!" to a yank, he'll laugh at you!

PS most games played !!! - lol - who gives a shinbone

2020, Yes I have infact played baseball, and I do really enjoy the sport. I've been to see the Toronto Blue Jays a few times. I do love it...and you're right..a baseball is damn hard to hit!!

My post was a swipe the comment in the report : "The 'most hallowed' record in sport broken" (Insinuating 'World Sport')

More apt would have been : "The 'most hallowed' record in American sport broken".

Baseball is no less statistically analyzed than Cricket. Here's the 1901 hitting stats for the Boston Red Sox for your perusal :millhouse:

ok - lol - i hear ya
like the "world series" played between USA and maybe a team from Mexico lol.
m8, I once got a grand slam home run
well to be honest it was an error that I got home lol
and it was the F (G?) team

I went to see Cuba play Aus in 2000 olympics
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baseball_at_the_2000_Summer_Olympics
we went down 1-0 (according to google - lol I'd forgotten)
size of those bugas though sheesh.
Not bad that we held em to 1-0 when they (Cuba) went on to get silver

Cuba beat USA 5-1 in the heats, but went down to them 4-0 in finals.

Another anecdote - was listening to an Aussie olympian - he volunteered to tell the kids a few tips
" so it's important to throw correctly see,
like , the other day, I threw the wrong way,
and I broke my arm ..."
(serious ! lol)

PS where's the smart money for the Rugby world cup? - AllBlacks then Sth Africa then France then Aus etc (more research req'd) - Sth Africa rested recently for tour of Aus and NZ - mistake? lack of match fitness?
http://www.oddschecker.com/rugby-union/world-cup/rugby-world-cup-2007/win-market

Kiwisi 2 to 1 on (ridiculous surely)
Aus 10 to 1
USA 3000 to 1 lol

Fiji 1000 to 1 - mmm
