Look at the 4 main headlines in NineMSN - and it's like this all the time - no wonder people are depressed , the media favor bad and sensational news to the point where you want to just hide under the bed - thanks goodness for the ABC and SBS.

NineMSN in particular seem to cater for the less intelligent, bogan types.

  1. Pet butchered: Family cat 'chopped by chainsaw'
  2. Final plunge: Skydiver 'died during descent'
  3. Scaly jaws: Beach-closing crocodile caught in Cairns
  4. Smashed: Thrown bottle leads to woman's fall
 
It's more so an indication of where society is at - and society is toxic! People thrive on the misery of others these days; and it's all just a big competition. Must have what our neighbours have, must have the best house on the block ... and to see others who are worse off is something of a boost.

Heck, it's become so mainstream to compare in order to justify problems. Such as what Rudd constantly does when pissing away our surplus ... "Australia is far better off than other countries" - big whoop! Means nothing if we still go down the toilet ... even if it's at a slower pace

Not to mention the regular logical fallacies like above.

The descent would have been the least of his worries IMO and I doubt he would have died during it.

The stopping or the deceleration would have been the issue I reckon...

Actually it appears he may have had aheart attack or something on the way down.

NineMSN actually stick overseas sensational crap on their site if there nothing locally that fits their "disgusting and shocking" model.
 
While i agree that is a serious matter, check out the bolded part of the quote, i had to laugh and think of the Simpsons Movie.

Bad news sells, that's what the media are. Advertisement salesmen.

Look at the attraction of financial doomsday scenarios on this board; humans are fascinated by the worst possibel scenario

The only good news about the global crash is that it might put some of the media out of business as well. No profit = no advertising budget = good night.. today tonight! YAY!!!!
