AFTER 105 witnesses and three months of evidence, a drug trial costing $1 million was aborted today when it emerged that jurors had been playing Sudoku since the trial's second week ...

How irresponsible is this? These blokes will probably walk away from these charges now. It's a massive and complex task for police to gather enough evidence these days to convince the crown to prosecute and to gain a conviction. And then we have these clowns in the witness box that couldn't be bothered to take it seriously.

What an insult to the police and prosecutors that would have spent weeks bringing all of this together and who knows how long gathering the actual surveillance and evidence in the first place, possibly at personal risk for some of them if undercover work was involved.

What a disgrace!

"There is no offence under the NSW Jury Act for playing games or being inattentive to a degree that causes the abandonment of a trial"

Wonder if a Perverting the Course of Justice charge would be relevant here?

I'd have thought it's a bit of an insult to the defendants as well. After all, they're the biggest stakeholders in the integrity of this process.
