I know there are some excelent and moderately priced applications out there but I have decided to developing my own stock management application which I will make available to members of this site.

Why am I doing this? There are three possible reasons
· I am silly and a glutton for punishment
· I like writing code
· I haven't found anything that does exactly what I want or that I can modify to do exactly what I want.

If anyone is interested to contribute to this exercise with ideas and testing it may enable you to get something that meets all of your needs as well.

The first alpha version will do the following.

· Operating Systems
Windows
Possibly Linux and Mac

· Bank
Add initial / extra capital
Add / modify Dr and Cr fees and expenses

· Add / modify trades
Add long and short trades
Calculate entry qty's based on various position sizing options
Modify running trades.
Delete trades
Close trades

· Monitor trades
Monitor stops
Monitor targets
Highlight winning and losing trades

· Monitor stocks entered into Watch lists in AmiBroker

· Alerts
Display alerts in the system tray in a similar manner to the way the Stockwatch application did

· Price adjustments
Adjust prices by importing daily data from a text file
Adjust prices by importing data from Yahoo finance
Manually adjust prices

· Summary screen
A summary screen for a quick display of the portfolio progress

· Dispose trades
· Graphs to give a visual display of progress
· Reporting

Let me know what you think.

As a noob & beginner I would like to have a software package with
A user customised Stock Analysis & Stock picker
But be able to be activated in real time as well as at the end of the days trading

I apologise in advance if my explanation does not make sense

Thanks for the reply Kash,

The more input I get the more flexible it will be. Otherwise I will only write it to suit my own needs.

Current planning is for the interface to be as flexible as possible with the ability to add remove and move various displayed columns. In a later version I plan to have user configurable calculated columns too (similar to excel cells).

There will be two initial datafeeds.

1. EOD data (because that's what I use)
2. Yahoo.Finance (delayed)

Other feeds will be added depending on requirements of users.

Hi again skinner
I have been browsing the shop on the forum & researching a few other programs because I am in the market for software to assist me to manage a super fund over the next 15 years
And be able to trade on a regular basis with discretionary funds

It would be really good to combine these three programs
Ezy Trader Professional or similar
ScanVest
MySF

What are your thoughts

Not skinner .... but check out Amibroker, which I think will answer your needs in a way similar to the first two programs you mention above. Advantages of using Amibroker is the very low cost of the program, relative to competing products, the huge community of users that provide great support and development assistance, and the power of the program.

Agreed, Timmy. Amibroker is a fantastic program and one which I highly recommend too

Thanks to you both on sensible advice :xyxthumbs
Thats one of the reasons I joined this forum
You may have seen my posts on rejecting Global Trader as a viable option

Just looking on the Amibroker site for all the info http://www.amibroker.com/features.html

Now just need to get a Program like MySF or is it better to join an online SMSF ??

Skinner I know you have given your reasons to why you are doing this but have you looked at programs like Stator because it will do all that and more.

And for around $500 it would save you alot of time and trouble.

Here is a link to the thread on it

But if you are going to do it anyway you might want to download the Stator demo to at least get some ideas.

Good luck.
