In Australia, the Queensland government continued its temporary pause on private parking operators’ access to theQueensland Motor Vehicle Register. On 10th August 2023, the Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads releaseda consultation document seeking comments and submissions on options to reform the release of personal information forenforcement of private car park conditions. At the date of the pause in operations, 71 ANPR sites were installed inQueensland. Some sites are now manually operated, pending the outcome of the government decision.Since the consultation there was a change in December 2023 with a new Premier and Transport Minister being appointed whoare positively disposed towards the need for an effective parking industry due to the impact parking abuse has on Queenslandbusinesses. Smart Parking continues to engage in positive dialogue with the Queensland Government and Department ofTransport and Main Roads (TMR). TMR is currently completing a review, working with stakeholders (including Smart Parking)and international parking experts to develop a Code of Practice for parking on private land.
