I have a theory that saving whales often leads to more beachings by other whale pods.

I believe that the initial beachings are due to interference or malfunctioning sonar in the whales navigation/communication centre in their brains.

The beachings are usually followed in Australia by a panic, mobs of well meaning people trying to float the poor creatures back out to sea. Local TV stations collect with their transmission equipment.

This further agitates the "heroes" saving the whales, and presumably further buggers up the sonar of the whales due to frequencies on which the TV stations transmit.

A small minority of whales are "saved" , directed back out into the ocean, with their buggered up sonar systems.

They then meet with a larger pod and disturb this pod's navigation system.

And the sorry tragedy repeats itself.

Perhaps people should not place themselves between nature and the inevitable.

To hell with saving them. Cut them up and sell them to the Japanese, the profits can pay for the clean up.
 
I would continue to warn all swimmers, fishermen and women, and bathers that I have noticed a direct correlation between the green and the simple trying to save beached whales and attacks by sharks and crocs on humans.

Whenever a tribe of inherited rich descend on a beach with Ch7 and Ch9 to push these poor bastards out to sea, you can bet London to a brick that within a week someone will be taken by a shark or a croc.

Word does get around, even at subsonic levels.

But seriously mate, when whales beach which they have been doing for millenia, the response is more about the bourgeois response, designed to alleviate their guilt about their profligate abuse of the environment.

And you look for it.

Whale beaching plus greenies/ weepers and Ch7 and Ch9 equals a shark attack or a croc take within 2-3 weeks.

They are smarter than the basketweavers.

personally never noticed a correlation before but DO know that whales have been beaching themselves since day dot and no amount of treehugging limpwristed sunday driving numnuts will ever fix it .um i think the whales prolly have a reason for doing it perhaps ?

I wonder at the human propensity for ranking the survival of animal species. The Fox is a classic example, we go to great lengths in Aus to eradicate them, in the UK they go to great lengths to try and save them.

Similarly, we have QPWS in Aus. protecting stands of tee tree and in the swamps of Florida, they are a noxious pest that they eradicate.

It also seems, that age bring a degee of cultral significance eg the dingo is an introduced pest but it's been here long enough to be classified as "native" and is protected to an extent.

I guess one persons graffiti is anthers rock art.

I sometimes wonder at humans attempting to insert their own wishes into natural selection. Lots of people want to save whales,no one wants to save toads ?
 

Agree mate , and seeing a dingo on a high rock outcrop, or chasing a wallaby down, or a whale with a pup between Palm Is and Orpheus on a days fishing is a defining experience.

Isn't life and nature good when the basketweavers don't interfere.

How true. Another example is the possum. They are a pest in NZ and here people actually make pets out of them, fergawdsake!!

Yes I have possums eating my paw paws papayas and I would dearly love to get a 4/10 to stop it all . I've used a shanghai but I'm not as accurate as when I was fourteen.

Possums are vermin.

Brumbies in nat parks is another example of this sort of irrationality. Exotics with damaging hard hooves, but the weavers will go to the barricades to save them.

Fair point to raise about the whales GG, I'd like to see the stats on how many poor cetations tortured in this way by well-meaning humans actually survive long term, or do they just go to another place and beach there.

Suspect in many if not most cases, it would be kinder to euthanase (the whales).

I would bet London to a brick that these "saved whales " will infect others with their crook sonar.
 
I note that a whale has beached on the Gold Coast and that the usual human suspects are interfering with a natural outcome.

How would the sound waves of sonar be affected by radio waves?
