Y wi hev to hev old 15 sentury speling or iven older in 21?

OK I invented crap above, but there were already 3 segments on Ray Martin’s Current Affair.
Kids missed one word altogether, parents were bit better, and some teachers don’t check spelling and gramma because they are not confident themselves.

Some other statistics:
To slang speak you have to know f. word up to 200 other words and you get by.
2000 words and you get uni degree or at least Tech College
6000 words and you will intimidate almost everybody, as allegedly 50000 words Mr Churchill is long gone.

Dinosaurs are dead, so is old English, lets make it easy and learn real things not phone books.

The english language is a "DOGS BREAKFAST"

It is complicated, confusing and bloody hard to master, even for the academic professionals.

It would be nice if we adopted an easier approach to the english language:

* Spell words the way they sound
* Take a universial approach to the language
* Make more words that follow the rules; ie i before e, except after c

But at the end of the day technology has changed the english language and the need to spell or write correctly.

Eg short hand for sms, keyboards replacing hands that write, spell checkers etc.

Going the other way, I remember back in primary school learning that the word "fish" could in theory also be spelt "ghoti" based on alternate phonetics:

gh = f (as in enouGH)
o = i (as in fictiOn)
ti = sh (also as in ficTIon)

One problem with spelling phonetically is that different accents could cause the same words to be spelt differently.

One easy one could be to abolish any other form of past time and use –ed for all verbs.

I know would look silly for a while, but one worry less for a lot of current and future students.
We could have a ‘Dual spelling for a while’

Americans write nite, color and first doesn’t make sense to me, but second does.

Actually all English speaking countries could create 1 English for all, would be nice, as at the moment we seem to be drifting apart.

The genius who pointed this out was George Bernard Shaw. Who should have spelt his name Jorj, but then consistency is an overrated virtue.

Well I've always had a problem with the pronunciation of that word. I've always pronounced the 'o' in women the same as in woman, even if dictionaries do say it should be "wimen".

Which is why I wouldn't think of using women as an example of that pronunciation.

More gramma then spelling, but again added simplicity almost automation.

How about all plural nouns finishing with s, es and the only problem I can see if word ends with double s in singular form, but I am happy to use 3

You just write it and go on and concentrate on important things.

By the way there was suggestion to have 13 months 28 days each when 1-st of the month every month would be always the same day of week. Pro – easier, con – easier to be bored and we have so many different calendars already like mid January all of the sudden China wakes up that we’ve got a New Year, I never thought they are so slow, or they are so far ahead of us, either way they celebrate on different day, that’s for sure.

Are the people writing "gramma" being facetious or employing some sort of abbreviation?
Correct spelling (seeing this is a thread on spelling) is grammar.

Julia is right, grammar not gramma.

P.S. if in doubt check dictionary,paper one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
