What do you think about this idea? Would you be up to this on a short hop?

It's sort of against all the concepts that I've been brought up with.

I suppose it's easy for the F/As to check that your stool is in the upright position..

Although I'm still unsure of the real consequences of a hard landing strapped to your stool just forward of the rear galley

As a frequent Melb / Sydney flier I would be happy to see a cheaper bus ride style if it provided reasonable cost and flexibility benefits.
Always amused by terms like "hard landing" and "water landing" instead of the more realistic "crash and disintegrate".

Don't they have that already with the plethora of TV programs like "Getaway"? Strap yourself into the La Z Boy recliner for takeoff to some far flung nether region of the globe and watch some nubile, bikini clad TV presenter cavorting with the dolphins? Wish you were here kinda stuff at impoosible prices that even the AMEX Platinum would have trouble coping with? All in the comfort of your loungeroom.
 
I went to an aircraft muesum once and saw a passenger jet from the 60s. Essentially nothing has changed since back then in terms of cabin design, except for slightly more mordern fabric (can't say that for the new A380), entertainment units, removal of the ash tray at the arm rest and the fact that leg room is smaller.

This is what you get when you have global duopoly in aircraft design - no innovation.

I really like to see a capsule hotel style cabins for long haul flights. I think they had that in the movie "The Fifth Element".
 
Emirates has cabins in first class but I wouldn't think they're cheap. Practically speaking does anyone know if air safety authorities would allow such airplanes where even otherwise healthy people aged say 16-45 would be allowed to stand during take off and landing?

A "hard landing" is a crash where the aircraft more or less stays in one piece, and can be used again, but a "crash and disintegrate", well... guess having a proper seat rather than a bar stool probably won't be able to save you your life from that one.
 
Give me the bar stool any day. I have fallen off many a bar stool and managed to come back from the dead. Quite literally in some cases. hic.

And next comes the Japanese railway style with people being literally pushed into planes to fit as many on as possible, as quickly as possible.

Personally, I'd rather just pay for a seat. I've never found anything wrong with the cheapest / economy class seats for domestic travel - it does the job, still quite cheap and at least you're seated in the event of turbulance, bad landing etc.
 
Actually if you are tall, it may be more comfortable to be in a secure standing position than being wedged between your seat and that in front, particularly when the passenger in front puts their seat back.

Being tall, when travelling economy, I never put my seat back, even on long haul flights, as I do not want to make the person behind me feel the same discomfort as I do when the person in front puts their seat back. Do onto others as you would want them to do onto you.

As for Ryanair, we may laugh at this proposal and their charging for toilet use proposal, but they are one of the few airlines making money (maybe not right at this moment, but averaged over the last few years). From being nothing just over a decade ago, I believe they are now bigger than BA in Europe (e.g. excluding BA's intercontinental business) and are mooting to take over Lufthansa. They must be doing something right.

I would assume that for a lot of people their fares are the difference between having a holiday or not being able to afford a holiday. If the choice was between a week in Sconthorpe (ASF doesn't like the correct spelling) or a week in Spain, I could endure 60 minutes of discomfort if flying from London.
 
Sounds good to me. I often commute from Europe to Uk. If it a bar stool I ma strapped great, as long as they supply the drinks lol
 
I think it's a great idea.

Never been too fused with class when flying.

The food is usually crap irrespective of class and doesn't matter unless your
flying in a Kevin 07. Or your full of self-importance

Those mini-bottles of spirits you get don't help, it's like trying to get pissed in legoland.

And it's not comfy anyway especially if you are taller than average.

I'd do it on a flight from say Cairns to Melbourne any day.
