I was recently called a narcissist by "specialed" on another thread, who is definitely not a narcissist.

I am.

Please dob yourself in if you are a narcissist.

Dob someone else in if they are, in your opinion.

Yours in great self esteem, self love, feelings of greatness etc. etc. etc.

Speaking as a narcissist I would never use wordweb. Its like driving a BMW when you could be in an Arnage.

I thought window shopping was to look at the items for sale and glancing at the rear view mirror was for safety reasons. Which reminds me, I have to go groom now. :rolleyes:

What is Narcissism?

A pattern of traits and behaviors which signify infatuation and obsession with one's self to the exclusion of all others and the egotistic and ruthless pursuit of one's gratification, dominance and ambition.

Most narcissists (75%) are men.

Narcissists are either "Cerebral" (derive their narcissistic supply from their intelligence or academic achievements) - or "Somatic" (derive their narcissistic supply from their physique, exercise, physical or sexual prowess and "conquests").

1) has a grandiose sense of self-importance (e.g., exaggerates achievements and talents, expects to be recognized as superior without commensurate achievements)

2) Is preoccupied with fantasies of unlimited success, power, brilliance, beauty, or ideal love

3) believes that he or she is "special" and unique and can only be understood by, or should associate with, other special or high-status people (or institutions)

4) requires excessive admiration

5) has a sense of entitlement, i.e., unreasonable expectations of especially favorable treatment or automatic compliance with his or her expectations

6) is interpersonally exploitative, i.e., takes advantage of others to achieve his or her own ends

7) lacks empathy: is unwilling to recognize or identify with the feelings and needs of others

8) is often envious of others or believes that others are envious of him or her

9) shows arrogant, haughty behaviors or attitudes

That is not narcissism.

It is a description of Nacissistic Personality Disorder which my trickcyclist mate who is sober tonight tells me is culled from a book called DZM Four , written by yankee psychiatrists.

I am not a narcissist, but it is nice to see threads about me.:D
 
I always aspired to be a narcissist, but the white, hairy and flabby bloke looking back at me from the mirror doesn't suit the profile. :(
 
I could respond in greater detail to this thread but I am too busy staring at my beautiful reflection in the bath tub.

I sincerely hope that the missus doesn't want to have a bubble bath tonight. It would ruin all my fun!

Looks like i tick all the boxes
 
To be narcissistic one would have dual personalities. Alternating from one to the other while the 'love of oneself' remains the dominant persona to be seen as sane. Like an internal conflict between low self esteem and the list below.

Grandiosity.
Which brings me to the all-important issue of image for the narcissist. Image is everything. It's all they are. Narcissists are grandiose. They live in an artificial self invented from fantasies of absolute or perfect power, genius, and beauty.

Selfish, arrogant, and envious.
Narcissists selfishly take advantage of other people to achieve their own ends, they may come across as haughty, arrogant, and contemptuous of others, and they may be envious of what others have or believe that other people must be envious of them.

"I'm special".
Narcissists believe they are "special" and can only be understood by, or should associate with, other special or high-status people or institutions (DSM IV-TR, 2006). They do think of themselves as intellectually or morally superior, and everyone who is not special and superior is worthless. By definition, normal, ordinary, and average aren't special and superior, and so, to narcissists, they are worthless.

I had looked this up recently as I believe that a bloke I work with has this disorder - he ticks all the boxes. I'm not kidding, he's a really arrogant a***hole.


PS - it's DSM-IV. The latest version is DSM-IV-TR. The World Health Organisation has the ICD-10 which includes all diseases and illnesses (not just mental illnesses)

You can spot them when walking into a new workplace. They have half a dozen blokes kissing their bum and they talk down to people except bosses and bum buddies. Had plenty of run-ins with them 'cause thy nay kisseth botty.
