I don't know about the super part but you don't need to re neg your citizenship to marry a girl OS and live in her country! Do you know what a hassle it would be to get your citizenship back? +7 years and a wad of cash.

My wife's Japanese, I live in Japan on a permanent resident visa, no worries and the CGT rules are pretty good for us non residents.

hmmm, in most countries, marriage gets you nadda, '0', zip. Marriage will not change your status until you apply to do so, whether it be residency or citizenship.

Your entitled to your super until you have migrated fully, upon which time your entitled to some, but not all i believe.

Cheers,

Sheesh! How many Aussies are over there Bling? It seems every second person on the forum lives there.

Marry a girl from a country which supports dual citizenship like Aust. Or get a permanent residency visa and don't bother with citizenship until you know the full story. You can't get your super if you are a citizen. Only people on certain types of temp-residency visas can take their super with them overseas. We citizens have got to leave it here...but when you look at what you can do with super in Aust, and the strength of the local share market, its arguably one of the better places on the planet to have it.

Wayne, I don't know! I do know there'll be one less as of April next year!
I guess i'll find out how many aussies there really are here when I got out on saturday night to watch the RWC!

Great!! So you get discount CGT? What about tax, you still have to pay here?

We have to pay tax on CGT here, if you declare it.
Any income earned from OZ has no tax free threshold. $1 = 30% tax till the next level up.

Sometimes non residents miss out on bonus offers etc but generally the CGT benefits make up for it all. But I guess that would depend on what type of investing/trading you are doing.

Where are you thinking of heading?

Somewhere with big maracas lol

I believe you can only grab your super when exiting the country if you intent on never coming back into the country. I suppose that would mean changing your citizenship as well which kinda answers your other question.

The immigration dept would be the best to ask if you are serious about this. I wouldnt ever give up my australian citizenship if i'm moving overseas as its a ticket out of there if things go rough. Worth whatever I have in super.

You can't take super with you, no matter what, if you're a citizen.
