'Gang rapists' sentences cut
The New South Wales Court of Criminal Appeal has reduced the sentences given to two Sydney men who gang raped a teenage girl in a violent home invasion in the city's west.
In July 2003 a group of men broke into a unit in Sydney's west, tying up a family at knifepoint and repeatedly raping a 16-year-old girl.
Her injuries were so serious that they required treatment under general anaesthetic.
Dudley Mark Aslett and his nephew, Steven James Aslett, were given maximum sentences of 40 and 24 years respectively for their roles in the armed robbery and the attack on the teenager.
But the Court of Criminal Appeal has reduced both men's sentences, finding the original jail terms were manifestly excessive and that the judge had made errors in deciding on the jail terms.
Dudley Aslett has been resentenced to a maximum term of 30 years in jail and Steven Aslett will now spend up to 20 years in jail.'



‘Maximum’ and ‘up to’ means that sentences can be further reduced for good behaviour, and we can see them out if half the time.

Very emotional stuff if you are behind victims, but if I had it my way they would be at least castrated and if possible executed.

This way we have to spend up to $3,000,000+ to keep them locked and no guarantee that after release they are not going to rape again.

The only good news that thanks to people like them some have a job, and if released earlier we actually save some money.

I know it seems unfair to cut the sentences for such heinous crimes however lets all hope they get a taste of their own brutality whilst they are 'behind' bars.

Australia are probably doing a far better job on sentencing than most other countries. Much of Europe is increasingly reducing sentences. That does not mean Australia is doing a great job, just a fair one with Laws as they are on the types of prisons that are allowed these days.

Actually the way things are going with so much more information available through the media these days most criminals really donot stand a chance after rehabilitation any way as soon as some one finds out or a some kind of data check is done and the media is informed and they splash their faces all over the tv and newspapers these people soon learn that rehabilitation was no point and might as well return to crime anyway.

It would probally be better now just to sentence criminals no matter what the crime was to death any way especially with public opinion as they will always risk losing jobs and hurting their family(especially if they have children) once it is found out even if they donot return to crime.

I recall reading an article in the newspaper a few months ago about a man his wife an dchildren who were invited into a female tennise champions box and room and the fella had not committed a crime for 16 yrs but the media straight away published his name and his childrens names in the paper...just imagine what the kids went through when they got back to school.

So you are probally right it is better to put people who commit crimes to death as it will save money on rehabilitation programs and save children from being ridiculed by others when their parents crimes and past crimes are publicised.

In regard to our legal system and our law enforcement policies I'd like to see us copy Singapore, which has some of the toughest laws and the most severe punishment in the world. As a result Singapore is one of the safest places on the planet, and has a very low crime rate.
You don't play up in Singapore....if you do you're likely to get a bullet in the belly or a rope around your neck or a public flogging followed by a a hefty jail term.
And the judges over there work with the law, not against it like some of these bastards of judges in Australia. Some of the sentences they hand down are so ridiculously lenient that the judges themselves ought to be punished for their imcompetence.

Just imagine if the government used its statistical information and went to area that have low rates of education and family disfunction it could probally just lock those kids up for good before they grow up and commit some of these crimes.

The community would save lots and lots of money.

This is just an observation that i put forward not one that i would intiate or back.

Yeah, you dont even get a chance to grow piles in Singaporean jail coz they flog em back in again!

Actually one of the good things about the Singapore system is it automatically detains and rehabilitates drug addicts and gets them back to being postive, constructive members of their society, where as here they just give them a sentence and when its finished put them back on the streets again.

If my son ended up in that dismal state of drug addiction i would be the first to promote the same system as singapore.

Or do you think we should just put them to death for their crimes or once released from a sentence and rehabilitated and got their lives back on track put a picture and their name in the media and annoy them??

I reckon theirs behinds would be very big and sloppy by now. lol

Rather than reducing the sentence, let em serve 1 year behind bars then shoot em, much better deterent and saves us tax payers heaps of money!!

The governement recently had a campaign for organ donars. I reckon this was a waste of money because there are plenty of candidates behind bars. lol Kill two birds with one stone so to speak

Do you think it could get this type of bill past the democrates in the senate??

What do you think would be a good punishment for drug dealers?

Inject them with their own drugs maybe......when do you think the government will allow members of the community to hand out the sentences??

Unfortunately most of the drug dealers behind bars use the stuff themselves to feed a habit. The smart ones at the top never see a prison let alone face a trial.

Then maybe society shouldnt kill them if they had an addiction maybe the government and the justice system is right when they dont allow the community to actually hand out sentences as community members do not have the knowledge or the experience to decide a sentence or determine who is guilty and who is not.

From what you have just pointed out to me crackaton i think maybe i myself should not be permitted to be involved in the justice system.

Killing them would put them out of their misery, eliminate the need for drugs reduce court costs, and put greedy lawyers out of business.

Cost of one lead bullet + labour required to direct it to its target approx 100$.

Sounds like a bargain to me.

I have actually worked with, unfortunately, so called rehabiltated drug users. They never change. Once in the system thats it. Sad but true.

Hopefully they would either commit suicide or some other thug would knock them off. Or better still they find themselves in a situation where the special forces get free target practice.

One issue that may be a problem is almost every family in Australia has a family member who has committed a criminal offence at one time or another which they may know or may not know about whether they be a husband,son, daughter, wife, neice, nephew, grandson, grand daughter, cousin, brother, sister and so on and whether it be serious or minor i am not sure if they would want a loved one to go through the processes that you have just suggested and kill themselves or be tatooed or even be rehabilitated live life normally and move on and then be it made public again about what they did in the past. I know the media love it as i have noticed over the years they have had more ability in whipping the public into a frenzy.

I am not sure really if they would like there loved one raped in jail and sodomised, forced to suicide, have limbs amputated and then put to death or even tatooed for life on their forehead i am concerned that this may not be the best way.

Can't say I know of anyone in my family who has a crim record. Perhaps you are different.
