Hi,

I’ve got a laptop with a 2nd LCD monitor hooked up to it, today I decided to play a home movie on it but when I dragged media player into the 2nd monitor, media player appeared with no movie just blank, when I dragged media player back into the laptop monitor all was fine, just wondering what's causing this, all my other applications work as they should on the 2nd monitor.

Thanks in advance,

Cutz

Try File>Tools>Options>Performance and switch Video Acceleration to none.
In Windows Media Player, that is.

Thanks Nyden but i couldn't get it working, i tried the microsoft site but there was no info on media player 11 for this problem, not to worry i will just continue watching home videos on the small screen.

Cutz.

It's because the video overlay mode isn't enabled for the other screen, probably in the hardware. So it only is able to draw video on your "main" screen. It's pretty common.

As long as the system is powerful enough, go to tools->options>performance tab->advanced and uncheck "use overlays" (or similar, I only have MP10 on the PC here)

That should allow you to view it on the other screen, as it doesn't use the video card's special overlay mode, just the standard one.

If it's a laptop, it probably comes with some generic video card, but if it's a recognised chipset such as nvidia or ATI and maybe says it has a "laptop high end graphics card" - try downloading and installing the latest generic drivers. That might have improved support for playing video on two screens.

you may need to update your video card driver on the laptop to handle a second monitor.

i had the same sort of issue when i used my Plasma TV as a second monitor, i updated the Ati Catalyst video driver and fixed the problem.

good luck.
