Thanks for voting!

Can Campbell Newman beat Premier Anna Bligh?
Yes
83.58% (1262 votes)
No

Total votes: 1510

Bligh was very shrill in Parliament this morning. She is running scared, so expect to see an early poll before Newman consolidates outside Brisbane.

Yep, I think she is very scared, and will be wailing like a banshee before long. This is the first really serious threat she has had, and it is about time.

Bring it on..........

Agree that she's scared and there will almost certainly be an early election.
Politics in Qld is too leader-focused. Campbell Newman is of course immensely capable but his ascension to the leadership (presuming he gets preselected) isn't going to alter the incompetence of the rest of the LNP.

And, however good Anna Bligh was during the floods, it can't make up for the asset sales and incompetence of her team. Paul Lucas is an example. The stuff-up with Qld Health salary payments is, I'm pretty sure, still not resolved. He should have resigned over this.

Perhaps Newman made his move too early. Bligh will be off to the polls to cash in on her new found popularity. This won't last. She will have to hurry.
THE move by Brisbane Lord Mayor Campbell Newman to become premier has just become a lot harder, according to the latest Newspoll.

Queensland Premier Anna Bligh has staged the biggest turnaround in the history of the survey, with a 12-point surge in Labor's primary vote from 26 per cent to 38 per cent, one point ahead of the LNP.

The LNP's primary vote fell eight points, from 45 per cent to 37 per cent. It is the first time Labor's base vote has shaded that of the LNP since the election two years ago.

The poll, published in The Australian newspaper, showed Labor's two-party preferred vote surged 11 points to 52 per cent in the January-March quarter, kicking it four points clear of the LNP.

Her only advantage is now neutralised by Campell Newman who was right there in the think of it as well during the flood...

Very hard to see Anna getting out of this one.

Before Anna rushes to the polls in QLD, she might want to have a chat with former WA Labor premier, Alan Carpenter.

It says in that same article that the poll was conducted before John-Paul Langbroek's resignation as LNP leader on Tuesday. I think this confirms that Langbroek was not coming across as an alternative leader and justifies the actions taken to get Newman into the leadership position. Once Newman starts election campaigning and gets out to regional Qld, it will be interesting to see how the polls go then.

Interesting that Bligh now wants to bring the election forward - one would think to give Newman as little exposure as possible to the people while riding high on her own increased popularity from the floods.

It seems that this Qld election will be a popularity contest based on the recent Qld disasters with scant regard of state management skills or lack of them.

No... don't give her good advice, egg her on to an election. ;)

Buy, I suspect she will at least wait until after the weekend NSW election to get a sense of Labor sentiment... then we'll probably have another Labor government decide to go the max term.

But, I don't rule out more surprises to come. I don't agree with everything Newman does, but he's a very smart operator... as it would seem are the masterminds of this coup.

Bligh said on AM that one reason for going to an early poll could be because there is not a "functioning Opposition".

She obviously thinks Labor would make a better opposition.

QLD next Domino to fall

Any members of the LNP who think they can win the next election without Newman will now have a re-think.Gillard's only hope now is to delay the election in the hope that the discontents in the LNP make waves.

CAMPBELL Newman's audacious bid to become premier has received a stunning endorsement from Queenslanders and put the Liberal National Party on track for a landslide victory in the next state election.

An exclusive Galaxy Poll for The Sunday Mail reveals voters across the state have overwhelmingly rallied behind the Brisbane Lord Mayor, pushing support for Anna Bligh's Labor team back towards the dire levels she experienced before the summer natural disasters.

The poll results indicate Cr Newman would win his chosen seat of Ashgrove from the ALP despite the 7.1 per cent margin held by Labor's Kate Jones in the seat as part of a sweeping victory that could see the Government lose up to 33 seats.

The poll shows Labor has failed to gain traction with its early attacks on Cr Newman's unorthodox bid, with the LNP extending its two-party preferred lead to a 58-42 per cent split with him as leader.

It validates the extraordinary LNP leadership switch from John-Paul Langbroek last week and could also temper rampant speculation of an early election, ignited last Tuesday when Cr Newman revealed he would ditch City Hall and run for premier from outside State Parliament.

However the LNP's leadership arrangement has come under scrutiny, with voters expressing concerns over new Opposition Leader Jeff Seeney, who will act as a "seat warmer" for Cr Newman in Parliament.

The poll of 800 voters last Thursday and Friday found Cr Newman's personal popularity lifts the LNP two-party preferred vote from 55 to 58 per cent.

The leadership switch has also turned the preferred premier stakes upside down, with Cr Newman recording 51 per cent support compared with Ms Bligh's 38%

Calliope, your preoccupation with dear Julia has you getting all muddled up.

Anna Bligh is the Premier of Queensland not Julia Gillard.;)

It will be a fascinating knife edge election.

Lots and lots of knives being wielded, on their own people, by both sides.
