Qantas, the world at your feet!!

2020 and Naked Shorts:

I don't suppose you would consider giving credit to a flight crew who did a good job in bringing the plane down safely under difficult circumstances which were none of their making.

Imo your remarks about crew engaging in untoward activities are tasteless at best. Just really silly and completely unnecessary.

Julia,

I am a pilot myself (no not big commercial jets, just light aircraft). So I defiantly see that the pilots did a great job and if anyone had of been hurt in the incident I would not have made those comments.

Its a common pilot joke that that's what happens through-out the flight.

and to think, going down in an air crash without that nice feeling of O2..

Julia , I take it you've changed since this post on poetry thread

heck the main difference between a joke about joining the mile high club - and "is it is ok to joke about global warming" -
where I seem to recall you quickly went to the defence of joke telling - because only a "zealot" (etc) would treat it seriously -

is that, in one case, 1000's upon 1000's of people and critters will die

You guys all want to go away and take a long hard look at yourselves with a thread like this :

Julia,

It's not a common pilot joke, it's a very tired and silly "joke" that gets trotted out everywhere. Having worked for an airline, and with hundreds of pilots and other cabin crew, I can tell you that it's not something that would bring anything other than an exasperated grimace from any flight crew.

I've seen much more libidinous activity in corporate offices and boardrooms than amongst any flight crew.

Another incident for Qantas. Perhaps they hit an air pocket. I know nothing about air planes though.

Any thoughts on what happened on the Singapore - Perth flight?

gg

I've been on smaller planes that have done this, I think they call it "clear air turbulance" but to drop, what was it 8000 metres or something, in such a short space, thats a fair distance.
I know they recommend when seated you keep your seat belt fastened and this is probably why..

Qantas are Great!

I have a serious medical condition for which I have to travel with an EPI pen at all times. Qantas are the only airline (and I have flown many domestic and international) that will let me take it on board with a Dr's letter and treat me like a normal human, the staff go out of their way so I may have a meal to eat that won't kill me. Run through my medication with me so in an event they can help.

Virgin and I departed ways 2 years ago when then said I HAD to have legal forms 3 pages then, each signed by a Dr and stamped, for one way. Thus two lots of forms for 1 simple trip. Cost of the Doctor’s etc.

I was told to go on before everyone else take my own cleaning cloths and disinfectant to clean my seat and those around me before they would let any one on! Then they make me sign a legal agreement that if I go in to anaphylactic shock I will save myself! If you have every seen any one in the middle of and anaphylactic attack you can't treat yourself easily if at all have the windpipe constrict.

So by that stage Everyone waiting knew who was the odd one out! It is humiliating. I've written telling them what I think of their airline and flippant crew.

As far as turbulence goes any plane is susceptible to it. They can not tell when an air pocket is coming. All can have a accident major or minor.

This may not have been air turbulance but may have been a malfunction.
Wait and see and see if CASA try to cover it up.

Qantas have been flying some planes that have outstanding issues for up to 5years.

I recently flew to London and was tipped off by "someone" about the state of the Qantas fleet, I switched to Malaysia airlines and while I was away all the horror stories started, panels falling off planes, flight returning to Heathrow after a problem, dumping tons of fuel on the way and it goes on and on.

The Qantas fleet has been left run down for too long and this is the result.

I heard QAN had a new panel added to the board ..,.it came in via the ceiling.
Should we walk around with hard hats just in case?

LOL!!!
Mate, you should be thanking the Qantas staff before crackin the jokes

I'm just taking a stab here, but it looks like there were sudden changes in the pockets of air (turbulences), and the plane somehow stalled, and it automatically activated its anti-stall function as programmed. From my knowledge, the way the A330 needs to be flown is generally to sacrifice altitude for airspeed, so I'm not surprised for it to drop that quickly and by that much altitude. Still, if it's not that, it's probably a system failure.

The only sensible comment so far...

For all the experts and comedians in other posts this probably what you were looking for

I'll be on a Qantas flight next week ... maybe I should buy a stack hat.

I only flew Qantas because they are the only ones that do a direct flight - I haven't flown with them for years. But the flight over was uneventful and service was even up to standard as well (or at least better then my memories of it in the past). So hopefully the trip back will be just as mundane.

Hey Bog, which site did you get the wind profile from? Very interesting.

That post of mine and the chart was a bit of a s--- stir as the symbols etc mean nothing to most outside of aviation/meteorology but was in keeping with some of the comments being posted

Below is a laymans example for 20000 to 45000 feet and available from numerous sources on the net, this is from Jeppesen in the US.

What do you say about this stock?

There are couple of conditions in favor of this stock,

* Falling Oil Price (GOldman revised estimates of $50)
* Company is good takeover/merger target

Factors against Qantas

* Australian economy contracting.
