So whole package is $299.00,

Thanks in advance, I will keep reading Amibroker FAQ.

Have you thought what data source you'll be using? If you get serious you'll probably want a paid subscription that usually costs more per year than the cost of Amibroker. Yahoo etc fine for coming to grips with it all early on.

Thanks Newt. I was looking for a cheaper more easier software to start with, Amibroker seems cheaper than others but difficult to get a grip on straight up. Any cheaper recommendations greatly appreciated?:)

As many different pieces of software as opinions on how to make (and lose) money trading/investing.
Amibroker is fantastic value for what it does, but is that what you need to do? I find it great for mechanical trading stocks and backtesting. But I enjoy hours of fiddling with code and flicking though stock graphs.

Most have a trial period. Amibroker has 30 days from memory. If you can't make it do what you want try something else?

I've never used Ninjatrader for stocks but think there is a freeware version available for the basics. Others may have ideas for you.

I think Amibroker is good even if you don't code. For basic scans you can purchase the AFL Wizard and it does the same thing as any online scanning service does. It's easy to use since you choose what you want and the Wizard creates the code for you "e.g. SMA 15 over SMA 30" etc.

Amibroker also contains all of the indicators you should need. Most anything else is contained in code online. It also has all the features you would expect like watchlists, saved charts, type on charts and draw on charts etc. It does all of this without requiring any technical knowledge.

I also just use the Yahoo EOD of data with it since it's free. If I want live charting I use Commsec IRESS (free if you use enough brokerage with commsec) and Commsec gives you free live data standard (but 20 minute delayed charts without IRESS) and the charts can go down to 1 minute. Most people won't need live charting. Intraday charts are necessary for in depth analysis but since I am cheap, I use Commsec for that and write notes on the Amibroker daily chart.
