From Reuters today:

"In a speech defending his administration's Iraq policy, Mr Bush said former Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein's brutality had made it impossible to find a leader who could unite the country.

"I heard somebody say, 'Where's Mandela?'," he said.

"Well, Mandela's dead because Saddam Hussein killed all the Mandelas."

The bizarre gaffe was made in a press conference in Washington yesterday."


Ha-ha-ha!! .. A total classic GWB wins the "Foreign Policy Gaffe Of The Year Award" - again!

"I must say, I'm a little envious," Bush said.

"If I were slightly younger and not employed here, I think it would be a fantastic experience to be on the front lines of helping this young democracy succeed.

"It must be exciting for you ... in some ways romantic, in some ways, you know, confronting danger. You're really making history, and thanks," President Bush said.

Bush had his chance during the Vietnam war...but believe that his connections and lack of courage kept him out of it.

Hmmm, I'm prouder that we're in Afganistan, and I'm actually wishing I had the opportunity myself. Call me an old soldier....

He's got two daughters that could quite easily meet the criteria for serving there.
