Why is it that people are so quick to judge based on print medai when stories are based on sensationalism yet hold those same people, discredited in such high esteem when not under the microscope?

any secondary (media) source is easily discredited or definitavely authoritave as long as it suits your purposes. the real trick is to relate to primary sources.

the media is rubbish, anyone with a remotely educated mind knows this (which is most of ASF i hope). opinion columns are just that, opinion. editorials are nothing more than the ramblings of some 50 year old journo half pissed after his daily long lunch. any writing by any writers making any claim can be torn to shreds by anyone with their head out of their ass, possession of a library card and net access to google.

presentation is the key ;)

so who did you want to tear shreds off sanquar?

(which is most of ASF i hope).

Not of late, from my reading, unfortunately.

I don't. It can be hard to bite one's tongue. Hence the forum. I don't expect any or all to agree with me. it just seems the benefit of the doubt has disappeared and what is printed is so of late.

cheers,

Sensationalism sells Sanquar/Stannnnnnnn etc!

You have to jazz it up/make it big/make it so even the most mainstream/common people can read it and talk about it amongst friends/colleagues etc. There is no point in discriminating against anybody...it just won't sell! Classic case in point...Herald Sun versus The Age...I don't think I even need to explain the differences in the 2 and the sales volumes...but the proof is in the pudding...

I read the Herald Sun and 2 reasons only...the glossy pictures (haw haw) and the Sport. Everything else is basically New Idea or Woman's Weekly in everyday format.

Oh and to answer your question in that the benefit of the doubt has disappeared from print as of late...was it ever there? People are very quick to judge when they want to be right/want somebody to be proven wrong just to tell others "I told you so". It's basic human instinct; since the dawn of time people have judged on appearance, religion etc and not on the content of their character...from these instincts and initial judgments people determine whether they will like or dislike, trust or not...the list goes on. I once read that people will judge somebody on the first 4 seconds of seeing/meeting them. Not a lot of time to make an impression eh?

well said.

cheers,

and just to add, you have the problem of the political ideals of media owners being portrayed to the masses thru their publications (anything news.com.au puts out) and then folk basing this information as evidence or credibility for their own political ideals (or what they think are ideals).

and ASF is definitely not immune from such.
