Be careful J.H. on this trip with our so-called pacific friends.
I've got a bad feeling about this.

As for the hundreds of millions we give these ( ????? )
I do understand the international ramifications of such.
BUT as I'm paying! as a tax payer, I don't want any of my $$ going to grubs offshore.

Bob.

Good evening Bobby,

I think the important thing to be concerned about is "What is the money used for?"

Greetings Snake,

Whats the money used for? well these rotten so called countries that need to bludge on Aussie's for there survival, ongoing for EVER!
Their polliticians must go to night school to learn corruption, the propensity is rampant.

Hope your well
Regards Bob.

Yes, I often laugh at the so called dishonesty of western pollies, have a look at the rest of the world.

Marcos, Soharto, all through Africa and you don't think that Japan gets fishing rights throughout the Pacific Islands because they are kind to the environment

I know of island where the local fishermen now need to go 10 -15 ks out to sea to get a feed, before the Japanese were given fishing rights, they could catch them of the beach.

And now they want Australia to supply $millions whilst telling us to get stuffed !

theres a bigger picture to whats out there.. the pacific is vital to australia, and stability is vital..

i guess its the stuff you dont know about thats creating the problems,, its in a lot of peoples interest to cause unrest in the peaceful pacific islands,, sure there is corruption and politics,, but look in yourown front yard and see things a bit realistic before casting bad things at the islanders..

we have used them for slave labour, we have exploited their resourses, and we shouldnt leave them out to hang..

whats out there today is a damn sight scarier and uglier than corrupt politicians,, in the background are visits by south american druglords and from what i have heard asian and arabic extremists.. all taking a good look at what the islands can offer to their businesses.. and their causes..

diplomacy is fragile and making moves like ones seen in the solomons is unprecedented, and also in saying that you must believe that decisions like that are not taken lightly..

we need to keep the peace in the pacific,, we cannot afford to have it overrun by the likes of what are trying to gain a foothold there..

poverty breeds desperation, and desperation is the one thing that two types of ugly businesses thrive on..

any politician who does nothing to stop the beatings, raping pillaging and burning of an entire ethnic groups livelihood, must be bought into question.. so who is behind the man who sits by and does nothing, and how powerful is he???

i am all for peace in the pacific and all for supporting and paying back a little to the guys who's vunerability resourses and labour has been exploited far too long

IMHO..

:iagree:
Angentm, My guess is we "need" them to accept our aid (in preference to someone elses). Other options come to mind - Malaysia and their timber cutters, Taiwan and their fishing boats, Japan and their whalers. etc Let's face it PNG and Aus are brothers and we go back a long way ( as Michael Somare (sheesh spelling not my strong point lol) says, pre independence) - and the fuzzy wuzzy angels b4 them. This is a family dispute with them, and a disaster if we fall out. Solomons? - bit trickier, conceded.

PS All PNG did was let a man who arguably had diplomatic status get out of their territory - why be the meat in the sandwich here they reasoned. Let's not forget that those French agents knocked out the Rainbow Warrior, and Aus could hav apprehended them for NZ (in Nauru? some where like that) but didnt (I'm working from memory here, hope Im right)

Woops Wikipedia says "re Rainbow Warrior" Most of the others were identified, and three were interviewed by the New Zealand Police on Norfolk Island, where they had escaped in the yacht Ouvea. They were not arrested due to lack of evidence. Sorry for the corrupted info there. BUT - I still maintain PNG's actions arent a hanging offense (IMHO)

I am well thanks Bob. I trust you are too?
Yes that corruption issue needs REAL addressing by REAL people. Also the addressing of the problems of druglords etc.

Regards
Snake
