Rocco Pantaleo, the millionaire owner of La Porchetta has been killed on his motorcycle hit by a car at a notorious Melbourne intersection, about 11.30am yesterday while he was on his way to his favourite event - the Melbourne Grand Prix.

He died at the scene at the intersection of St Kilda Road, Fitzroy Street and Punt Road, not far away from the GP track.

The Italian migrant, Pantaleo, 53, first opened his pizza restaurant in Carlton in 1985 and built his business into an international franchise chain. The La porchetta in Rathdowne St, Carlton closed on Friday as a mark of respect.

Great quality pasta & pizza, wonderful service and value for money. Also, wonderful gelati just across the street in Rathdowne St.

RIP.
