It is interesting that the federal government provides a single refugee with a monthly allowance of $1,890.00 and each can also get an additional $580.00 in social assistance for a total of $2,470.00.

A single pensioner who, after contributing to the growth and development of Australia for 40 to 50 years, receives only a monthly maximum of $1,012.00 in old age pension and Guaranteed Income Supplement.

Maybe our pensioners should apply as refugees!

Please email this to all Australians so we can all be ticked off and maybe we can get the refugees cut back to $1,012.00 and the pensioners up to $2,470.00 and enjoy some of the money we were forced to submit to the Government over the last 40 or 50 years.

Please email this to every Australian to expose what our elected politicians are doing - to the over-taxed Australian.

Oh ! and what do our politicians get as a pension..........?

Yah its no wonder that the risk there lives to get here, what a cake walk hey ....


You can see that older Australians , Vets etc on pensions have been shafted big time when you hear facts like this.

Go fight for the freedom of your country and look forward to a pension thats about enough to live 50pc below the poverty line, sneak into Australia and have bludge and get double the old age vet.

Welfare Email Scam Upsetting Pensioners

An email scam is whipping up discontent by falsely claiming refugees receive more welfare support than old age pensioners, Community Services Minister Mal Brough says.

Mr Brough says the emails claim refugees are receiving $2,500 a month from the government, much more than aged pensioners.

"The claims in the email are blatant lies, which are also being repeated on websites and chat rooms," Mr Brough said in a statement.

"What concerns me most is that the scam targets older people and uses the plight of refugees to whip up discontent."

Mr Brough said the government provided $24 billion worth of support for aged pensioners every year, the biggest component of the welfare budget.

Currently, the age pension is subject to income and assets tests and the top rate for single pensioners is $525.10 a fortnight and $438.50 for each member of a couple.

But the welfare support provided to refugees is difficult to determine as there is no specific "refugee payment" and all situations are different.

Government support for refugees could be broken down into two basic payments - for those on permanent refugee visas or those on temporary refugee visas.

If the refugee was on a permanent visa, they could receive Centrelink payments like an Australian resident as soon as they arrived.

This means that aged refugees could receive the same payment as other aged pensioners in Australia.

For temporary visa holders, Centrelink provided assistance through the "Special Benefit" allowance, which is basically the same as the Newstart allowance.

Newstart is a maximum of $458.90 a fortnight for singles and $382.80 each for those in a couple.

So it is impossible to determine that refugees receive more welfare support from the federal government than the aged.

Mr Brough said he did not know who was behind the email scam, but had heard of a similar campaign mounted in Canada which used the same figures as the email doing the rounds in Australia.

"I urge anyone who receives these junk emails to treat them as such - mark them as junk - and send them to the trash can," the minister said.

"Clearly as the election approaches there will be those who go to any lengths to try to influence people."

Dont be surprised thow how much immigrants are earning. I live near Fairfield NSW and there is a hostel there. Some iraqi's with 4 kids and over earn over $2000 p/m (with free services like medical etc..) so the email to me rings true in some ways.

If he accepted the email in good faith I suggest an apology should be sufficient.

I never saw how much is refugee cash payment, but I did not look for it either.
It does not seem to be freely available as information on pension or unemployment benefit, so some confusion can be easily created.

As to total cash payment and other benefits, it can easily go into thousands if somebody uses free education, PBS subsidised medicines when they are very expensive, but it also applies to pensioners and other welfare beneficiaries.

Circulated info might not be totally incorrect, but twisted for the purpose to create some kind of result.

Advertising also uses special techniques to enlarge some aspect of the product not necessarily telling blatant lies.

Current world runs on manipulated information, but it is so hard to get used to it.

I don't particularly care whether you think a crime has been committed here matross. Big dog won't be banned for what he has posted. If you think a crime has been committed here, I urge you to track down the person that originally wrote this email and started circulating it. You can then refer it to whichever authorities you think need be notified of this horrendous crime.
