I am relative new to this forum and have little knowledge as to how to do reseach. Is it possible to easily find out what the total number of shares are in a company. I would like to know this so that I can calculate the asset backing of those shares.

Re: Number of Shares in a company

Find the latest Appendix 3b for the co and look for "number of quoted securities". Usually on the 2nd page.

Or you can go to the AR and go to the note regarding issued capital or earnings per share.

Like to add that with Dual listed companies like BHP or RIO, the number of shares outstanding may be misleading relative to the net profit.
