Hi this is my first post in this forum and I am a comlete NOOB when it comes to stocks, investments, or money in general

This is not a thread on "teach me how to invest" but by starting this thread I was hoping to compile a list of available resources that people can utilise to get started. Anything from freely available materials on the web to books, software, courses, seminars, and any other contributions by the members here.

So if you have a resource that you think is user friendly easy to follow and understand why not share it with the rest of us. :D

I would look forward to all your contributions and good luck with your investments :)

Hi Mate and welcome,

I will let you know the resources so far that i have found very useful.

The search function on this forum, if you have a term or idea or something in your head then someone here has probably already asked.

Alot of people rate Nick Radges "Adaptive Analysis" as a must have.

My only advice is to first, work out what your investment and trading goals are? They should be quite different IMO.

Anyway, its a great forum and most people will help you as much as possible.

Regards Stink

Investopedia is chock full of free info. I check there or do a search here before asking questions usually (easier on moderators that way).

Ditto to Radge's book. He posts here regularly and on his own site "Reefcap" too, and is a good guy to boot.

The F1 key while you are on any of the Brokers sites is a good place to start.

If you are talking Australia then the reference section in the ASX site is a must

Well worth having a look at the ATO (Australian tax office) site and get the guidelines for investing and trading.

Thanks for all the replies this is going to sound very Noobish :hide: however I am interested in a US company and I would like to purchase some stocks soon before they go up

<senior traders - insert newbie losing his money joke here lol :D >

I did a bit of research on this frum and it appears that people on this forum deal through
http://www.interactivebrokers.com/
when purchasing overseas stock

So I guess that the first thing I need to do is get an account with them, which will require me to put a deposit with them right?

then through their website i will have to indicate that i want to purchase the stock that i have in mind and give them some money to buy it for me.
I am not sure what happens next once the stock is purchased, do i get a certificate? what happens when i want to sell?

I am planning on sitting on these for at least 12 months as I am sure they will go up by approx $5 US in 12 months time.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated keeping in mind that i have never done anything like this before and my general knowledge in the area is parctically nothing  however i do know that the risk is low and NO i dont have any inside information or anaything that is PURELY me speculating.
